Alan Whitehorn is an emeritus professor at the Royal Military College of Canada. He received his BA (York University, Toronto) in Political Science & History and his MA and PhD (Carleton University, Ottawa) in political science. In the mid-seventies, he served as the research director on former New Democratic Party leader David Lewis’s memoirs. From 1978 to 2011, Whitehorn was a professor of political science at RMC in Kingston, Ontario. In the mid-1990s, he was the first holder of the JS Woodsworth Chair in Humanities at Simon Fraser University in Vancouver, British Columbia. He was also later a cross-appointed professor at Queen’s University in Kingston. As an academic, he writes on the topics of genocide, human rights, political parties and elections. As an award-winning poet, he explores the issue of genocide and its impact on Armenian-Canadian identity. The first Italian edition of Alan Whitehorn's poems, Poems from the Diaspora: An Armenian Odyssey (Edizioni Ca‘ Foscari, 2025), edited by Sona Haroutyunian (Ca’ Foscari University of Venice), has just been published.
