Assignment of your thesis supervisor

The Venice School of Management has developed a guide to the submission and preparation of the final degree exam and the thesis (Bachelor's and Master's), which includes information on:

  • how to request the assignment of the thesis supervisor to a professor belonging to the Venice School of Management;
  • reference standards for the preparation of final examinations (editing, bibliographical references, use of graphics and tables, etc.).

Thesis Supervisor

Students can choose as thesis supervisor (Bachelor’s or Master's Degree):

  • a full professor, an associate professor or a researcher belonging to the Venice School of Management, by following the online procedure;
  • a full professor, an associate or a researcher belonging to the Department of Economics;
  • adjunct professors, only if they teach a course of your degree programme.

Thesis supervisors may not include:

  • adjunct professors of practice modules;
  • non-permanent professors;
  • professor of different disciplinary fields*;
  • Foreing Language Assistants (CEL);
  • visiting professors;
  • professors who teach Innovative teaching and digital learning courses not offered by the Venice School of Management.

* Students can ask the teaching committee for the authorization to write the thesis with a supervisor who does not belong to the economics field. If the response of the committee will be positive, a second supervisor of economic area will be assigned. In order to be authorized, please write to the  Educational Programmes Unit.

Online procedure: assignment of the supervisor and thesis proposal

If the professor who will be your thesis supervisor belongs to the Venice School of Management, it is mandatory to complete an online procedure. If the supervisor is related to the Department of Economics this procedure is not necessary.

Before that, it is neccessary to meet the professor during his or her office hours according to propose the thesis' topic.

IMPORTANT: do not confuse the online procedure for the assignment of the thesis supervisor with the online request to graduate. Further information about the request to graduate are available on this web page

Please note that is mandatory to complete the request for the thesis supervisor and thesis proposal before the online request to graduate.

Starting from a.y. 2024/2025, before filling the form you can check the availability of professors. Once you have accessed the online form from you Personal Area, you will see the complete list of the Venice School of Management faculty. For each professor, an automatic system will show you the probability to be accepted (high, medium or low), based on the number of thesis she/he has in charge.

In any case you can submit a thesis proposal even if the professor has a low probability to accept new thesis.

In order to complete the online procedure and get a thesis supervisor, please follow these instructions: 

  • Enter your Personal Area and follow the path: Student Services Office – Esse3 > Assignment of your thesis supervisor
  • Click on "Login application”
  • Click on "Fill in a new thesis application"
  • Select the Department (Venice School of Management)
  • Complete the online form
  • Select the professor
  • Click on "Submit proposal"

Deadlines to complete the online form:

  • 15th May - 15th June
    Professor will reply by 16th - 25th June 
  • 17h September - 17th October
    Professor will reply by 18th - 27th october
  • 1st - 28th February
    Professor will reply by 1st - 10th March

Professors will reply in telematic mode, either accepting, rejecting or requesting a modification to your thesis proposal. Within 15 days from professor's reply, it is neccessary to complete the online procedure by clicking on "Confirm".

Proposals that have not been confirmed by this time will be automatically refused.

Please note:

  • requests to submit the online form outside the three annual deadlines will not be accepted;
  • those who, within 3 months from the acceptance of the thesis proposal, do not book an appointment for a meet with their supervisor to agree on the start of the work, will see their request automatically cancelled;
  • those who, after the start of the work, do not maintain contact with their supervisor for more than 6 months, will see their request cancelled;
  • those who intend to withdraw the thesis proposal after its acceptance, must submit a request for cancellation by writing to the  Educational Programme Unit.
