The double degree programme jointly offered and designed by Ca' Foscari University of Venice and University College London (UCL), one of the most prestigious universities in the world, allows selected students to live an international experience, study in a cosmopolitan and multicultural environment, and, upon completion of their studies, obtain two highly valuable academic qualifications.

  • Bachelor’s degree in Humanities from Ca’ Foscari University of Venice;
  • Bachelor’s degree in Italian Studies/Italian and History of Art from University College London.

Admission requirements

All students who have obtained a secondary school diploma or an equivalent foreign qualification and who demonstrate an adequate profile and preparation to successfully attend the degree programme are eligible to apply for admission.

Candidates must also demonstrate an adequate knowledge of both Italian and English.

Further information regarding the admission requirements and recognized English language certifications is available on the dedicated page on UCL's website: Italian Studies: UCL-Venice Double Degree BA (under the sections "Entry requirements" and "English language requirements").

The maximum number of students admitted to the program for each academic year is 10.

Application

The application must be submitted in the academic year prior to enrolling in the degree programme (usually by the end of January) through the UCAS portal, through which admission and enrollment to UK universities are managed.

Additional information about the application process and relevant deadlines is available in the dedicated section of the double degree programme on the UCAS portal: Italian Studies: UCL-Venice Double Degree.

It is also possible to consult the UCAS application guide provided by UCL and available at the following link: UCAS explained.

Applications will be evaluated by UCL, which will send an Offer letter to the selected students who meet the programme's admission requirements.

Programme and study plan

Selected students must enroll at both universities according to the procedures and deadlines established by each institution.

The students will spend:

  • the first and second year at Ca’ Foscari University of Venice, attending classes offered within the Bachelor's degree in Humanities – Science of the literary text and communication curriculum;
  • the third and fourth year at UCL, attending classes offered within the Bachelor's degree in Italian Studies/Italian and History of Art.

Below are the study plans for each of the two available study tracks.

Tuition fees and incentives

Selected students will be required to pay tuition fees:

  • to Ca’ Foscari for the first and second year,
  • to UCL for the third and fourth year of the programme,

according to the procedures and deadlines set by each institution.

At both universities, students will have the opportunity to apply for scholarships and financial incentives.

More information regarding tuition fees and financial support is available at the following web pages:

Graduation

Students will complete their studies at UCL at the end of the 4th year, according to the deadlines and procedures established by the Partner University.

The final examination will consist of writing a thesis, that should be the result of personal in-depth exploration of content consistent with the educational path. The work will be carried out under the supervision of a supervisor; the thesis will be defended in a brief interview with the supervisor and/or a faculty member chosen as a reviewer.

Once the degree has been obtained, students must inform the Welcome Unit (International Office) by sending:

  • Bachelor’s degree final diploma or graduation certificate;
  • complete transcript of records;

issued by the partner University. Moreover, they will also be required to communicate:

  • the exact date of graduation;
  • the name of the thesis supervisor and possible co-supervisor(s).

The Welcome Unit will start the procedure for the recognition of all the credits obtained abroad, including the final examination. Once the recognition is completed, the Ca' Foscari student profile will be closed from the back office without the need to formally submit a graduation request.

Both diplomas will be legally recognized in the respective issuing countries.

Students who wish to continue their studies with the master’s degree in Italian Philology, Linguistics and Literature, may request recognition of the credits earned during their 4th year, allowing for a shortened academic path.

A bonus point will be added to the final exam grade for students who participated in a double or joint degree programme. More information is available at the following webpage: Characteristics and assessment of final exam.

NOTE: Students completing a bachelor's level double degree programme at the partner University do not automatically receive an invitation to the Graduation Day ceremony. Those who wish to participate in the event must contact the Welcome Unit (jointdegree@unive.it) well in advance, which will inform the relevant offices. To take part in the ceremony, the credit recognition procedure must be completed and the Ca' Foscari student profile must be closed at least one month before the event.
