Italian online courses
Applications for the 1st period in the academic year 2024/2025
The Ca’ Foscari School for International Education (CFSIE) offers Italian language online courses from B1 to C2 level and two conversation modules levels B1/B2 and C1/C2, according to CEFR (Common European Framework of Reference for Languages). All courses and modules are held by highly qualified Italian native speakers, offering students the opportunity to acquire all the skills required to learn Italian according to the desired level.
The Italian language courses and modules in the academic year 2024/2025 will be available in 2 quarterly sessions, aiming at ensuring greater learning continuity allowing students to complete up to 2 consecutive language levels in one academic year.
The two periods are scheduled as follows:
- 1st period: October 2024 – January 2025
- 2nd period: March – June 2025

Course features
- 70 hours
- 10-12 weeks
- From a minimum of 10 to a maximum of 25 participants per class. A recent PC, notebook or tablet, microphone and webcam connected to the hardware,as well as fast internet connection are required
- Fees according to category
- Live streaming classes (synchronous mode) held by linguistic experts in which students can follow the instructor and interact with him/her and with the entire class; online breakout rooms in small groups, to ensure a good oral interaction
- individual activities on Moodle platform (asynchronous mode) to develop reading and writing skills.
- online final test for evaluation of skills
- final certificate of attendance and grade, on condition that at least 70% of the total hours (including self-learning) are attended (no credits are awarded)

Applications and fees
If you wish to sign up for one of our Italian courses please fill out this online form and read carefully the requested information. It is very important to indicate your correct residency address, including street name and number, zip code and country of residency.
If you are a first time SIE user, please upload your ID (identity document) and a passport-sized picture of yours.
You are also requested to indicate your status (student, PhD student, professor, etc) so we can determine the right fee. It is also necessary to upload a document certifying that what you have declared is true.
Please upload an internationally recognized certificate providing evidence of the Italian skills you have acquired so far or the previous course you attended at SIE. The certificate must be one of these: CILS, PLIDA, CELI or ROMA TRE, otherwise you will have to take a placement test with instructions that will be forwarded at a second stage.

Fee structure - 2023/2024 Academic Year
- Full rate € 560 (course), € 160 (module)
- external applicants and all users not falling into the below mentioned categories (including Ca' Foscari students graduated more than 6 months before)
- Partially reduced rate € 280 (course), € 80 (module)
- Other partner Italian or international university students (e.g. IUAV, Accademia, visiting students, etc)
- Teachers, researchers, visiting staff from other partner universities
- Returning CFSIE or CLA students (for who has previously taken classes at the CFSIE or the CLA)
- Ca' Foscari students graduated no more than 6 months before
- High school students from the age of 16
- Fully reduced rate € 180 (course), € 40 (module)
- All students enrolled at Ca’ Foscari who are up to date with their University fees
- Ca’ Foscari scholarship and research fellows, professors, administrative personnel, CEL at Ca' Foscari (Registration fees for these users will be covered by Ca' Foscari University of Venice)
- Students from foreign institutions enrolled in exchange programmes with Ca’ Foscari (Erasmus, Overseas, Double/Joint Degree, Erasmus Mundus)

How to pay
You will be required to confirm your place for Italian language courses by sending through receipt of (full) payment to cfsie@unive.it with “Enrolment Italian [LEVEL] - confirmation” in the email’s subject line.
Please Note: You will be required to finalize your payment only after receiving our confirmation email.
Payment must be made according to our instructions and by clicking on a link that will be sent to you via email.
Refunds
Refunds are granted only in case the course has not been provided or in the event of objective and documented impossibility for the applicants to participate (severe medical conditions, serious family problems). In this case the paperwork must be sent within the first week from the beginning of classes.
Certificates
Attendance certificates
- Attendance certificate: for students who attend a minimum of 70% of all language classes (49 hours in 70 hour courses), but who do not take, or pass the final exam
- Attendance certificate with final grade: for students who attend a minimum of 70% of all language classes (49 hours in 70 hour courses;), and who take and pass the final exam.
CILS certifications
In collaboration with the Università per Stranieri di Siena, the School for International Education is an officially recognised examiner for the CILS exam ("Certificazione di italiano come lingua straniera"). Students who wish to certify their level of Italian as a second language can take the CILS exam at the SIE in several session throughout the year. Upcoming dates will be available shortly.
The SIE also organises preparatory courses for the CILS exam for levels B1, B2 and C1.
