Rowing and the Galleon

Rowing (also known as British rowing) is a sport which requires speed and endurance. The boats employed are extremely narrow and athletes row with oars, sitting on seats (in Italian, “carrelli”) that can either be fixed or movable and facing the bow.

The rowing course is open to Ca’ Foscari students and personnel, both at a beginner and more experienced level. Courses are held in spring (March and April) in Sacca San Biagio, Sacca Fisola. 

Every year the University selects athletes to participate in national and international university competitions, for the team Università Veneziane - CUS Venezia. In particular, every year student-athletes (who may be beginners) are selected to participate in the Sfida Remiera Internazionale delle Università (International Universities Rowing Competition) in a galleon – a traditional eight-oar boat for British rowing with fixed seats, in which athletes row sitting down and mainly rowing backwards.
