Short training experiences for the job market

Micro-credentials certify the learning outcomes of a short voluntary learning experience, such as attending seminars and workshops, engaging in field activities, participating in a course or short-term training, and more. They offer a flexible and targeted approach to help individuals develop knowledge, skills, and competencies for their personal and professional growth.

Each micro-credential, upon completion of a project work evaluated by the supervising professor, grants 3 ECTS credits (to be included in the study plan under "other activities" by selecting Block A: 6 ECTS internship + 3 ECTS micro-credentials) and an Open Badge.

Eligible participants and access requirements

If you are enrolled in one of the following Master's Degree programmes:

  • Global Accounting and Finance [EM16]
  • Innovation and Marketing [EM17]
  • International Management [EM18]
  • Management and Sustainability [EM60]

You can participate in one of the available micro-credentials by checking the eligibility criteria outlined in the respective selection call for applications.

About

Generative artificial intelligence is deeply transforming the way innovation processes are managed, especially internationally. Activities such as market research, analyzing consumer behavior, defining user personas and creating prototypes are undergoing rapid rethinking thanks to the introduction of new technologies. This course is designed to provide students in the Master's Degrees in Global Accounting and Finance, Innovation and Marketing, and International Management with the skills needed to apply AI to the management of innovation projects.
Through a hands-on approach based on real case studies, participants will actively experience the use of artificial intelligence tools to address complex problems related to business process design and improvement. The workshop will consist of four lectures: three meetings of 4 hours each and a final meeting of 3 hours, with a seminar and interactive activities.
The course will be taught by experts in the field, with proven experience in managing innovation processes and developing technologies related to Transition 4.0 and the use of artificial intelligence.

Affiliated professors

The lecturers of the workshop will be Dr. Selena Brocca, director of Upskill 4.0, and Dr. Pietro Montino, AI Principal Consultant at Ennova Research, both with consolidated experience in managing innovation processes and developing technologies related to the 4.0 transition and artificial intelligence. The course is part of the StrAIght to Business format, born from the collaboration between Upskill 4.0, Ennova Research, the Venice School of Management and Google Cloud, with the aim of promoting the adoption of AI in business strategies.

Goals

The overall aim of the project is to provide students with tools, practical skills, and in-depth knowledge on using generative artificial intelligence to manage innovation processes. The course aims to develop the ability to apply advanced technologies to address real business challenges and to support professional growth through a practical approach based on case studies and concrete projects.
The added value of this project is the opportunity for participants to work closely with industry experts and directly experience the use of state-of-the-art AI tools. The course enables students to acquire internationally required skills and to understand how AI can be integrated into innovative projects to generate value and competitive advantage.

Who can partecipate

The project is aimed at 25 students enrolled in CdS EM60 Management and Sustainability; EM16 Global Accounting and finance; EM17 Innovation and Marketing and EM18 International Management who have included the 3 CFUs of Microcredentials in their curriculum.
Students enrolled in the above CdSs or in EM4 Administration, Finance and Control and EM7 Marketing and Communication by including these credits in supernumerary may also participate in case of availability of places.

Activities

The workshop will be held in the 4th term of a.y. 2024/2025 and is structured as follows:

  • First session: AI powered innovation: innovation management methodologies and artificial intelligence. 4h
    Starting with a reflection on the methodology of design thinking, all the different stages of the model are considered and a toolkit for their evolution through artificial intelligence is proposed. The presentation of AI applications will be contextualized within the evolution of AI technologies. By Selena Brocca.
  • Second session: a student-led design challenge. 4h
    The second session will be an opportunity to test the tools presented during the first meeting through discussion with an entrepreneur who will propose a challenge to the class. The students, in groups of three/four, will elaborate a Design Thinking pathway supported by AI technologies with a final presentation. Curated by Selena Brocca.
  • Thrid session: AI labs: a visit from Ennova Research. 4h
    The third session will be an opportunity to reflect on technology and research frontiers regarding the tools that will affect management disciplines the most. It will be an opportunity to learn and test solutions with selected professionals. Curated by Pietro Montino
  • Fouth session: a contest to test solutions on innovation and internationalization. 4h
    The fourth session will give students the opportunity to cast the topic of innovation in the context of business innovation processes. Again, one entrepreneur will propose a challenge related to the development of new international markets through new products and services. About

This microcredential covers topics related to the subjects of the state exams for the qualification to practice as a Chartered Accountant, structured as follows:

  • A brief theoretical summary of the topic;
  • Practical application of the topic with an examination of the main work phases and the relationship with clients;
  • Use of case studies to analyze different approaches based on the professional context in an international setting.

The instructors for the workshop are Dr. Virginia Nato and Dr. Christian Giorgi from the ‘Ordine dei Dottori Commercialisti e degli Esperti Contabili di Venezia’ (Order of Chartered Accountants and Accounting Experts of Venice).

Goals

The goal of the microcredential is to provide students with the opportunity to apply the theoretical concepts learned in the core courses of their degree programme by simulating the professional reality.
The added value of the course is the opportunity to work with Chartered Accountants who bring their professional experience to the classroom and guide students in the practical application of the topics, also with digital tools.

Who can partecipate

The project is aimed at 20 students enrolled in the Master's degree in Global Accounting and Finance [EM16].
If places are available, students from the following programmes may also participate in the following order:

  • Students enrolled in the Master's Degree in International Management [EM18], Management and Sustainability [EM60], and Innovation and Marketing [EM17], who have included the 3 ECTS microcredentials in their study plan;
  • Students enrolled in the Master's Degree in Marketing and Communication [EM7] and Administration, Finance, and Control [EM4], adding these 3 ECTS microcredentials as extra credits.

Activities

The workshop will cover 3 topics (5 hours each) for a total of 15 hours of lessons, held in the 4th term of the a.y. 2024/2025. The format will be hybrid, with some lessons online and some in-person. Each of the three selected topics will have a duration of 5 hours.

  • First Lesson: Dr. Christian Giorgi and Dr. Virginia Nato: “Environmental, Social, Governance: From Non-Financial Disclosure to Sustainability Reporting”.
  • Second Lesson: Dr. Loffredo Federico: “Leveraging Data Analytics and Artificial Intelligence in the Accounting Profession: Transforming the Role of the Chartered Accountant.”
  • Third Lesson: Dr. Luca Corrò and Dr. Lucrezia Mazzonetto: “From the Accounting System to the Financial Statement; How to Create and Process Financial Documentation for Stakeholder Meetings: Stages of the Process, Governance Rules, and Documentation Files According to Italian Law and Best Practices CNDCEC”.
     
About

The learning focus is on the tools and techniques, particularly the customer journey map, related to the concept of customer/user experience, aimed at developing effective marketing strategies and targeted responses to the experiential dynamics of users and customers. The goal is to learn how to translate the theory of customer journey and user experience into concrete actions. By applying the main tools presented by the instructor, you will enhance your design, analysis, and evaluation skills. Additionally, you will develop communication skills related to presenting proposals and projects.

The microcredential "Venture Capital and Finance of Innovation" offers an in-depth perspective on the critical role of venture capital in the investment ecosystem for startups and technological innovation. Through a mix of theory, real-world case studies, and practical simulations, the program guides participants through the fundamental principles of venture capital investments in early-stage and late-stage technology companies. This course is designed for individuals seeking to understand the financial and strategic dynamics behind investments in innovative projects, equipping them with the necessary skills in order to operate effectively in the arena of alternative and venture capital investments.

Goals

General objectives of the course are:

  • To provide students with an in-depth understanding of the mechanisms behind the creation and development of starting up a business, with a particular focus on financial support from the venture capital ecosystem.
  • To analyze venture capital activities from the perspective of financial intermediaries, focusing on scouting, investment (deal-making), portfolio management, and exit strategies.
  • To delve into regulatory, legal, and tax issues related to venture capital and private equity, with practical examples and real case studies.
  • To examine the skills required to operate effectively in the venture capital sector, including target company evaluation, investment management, and exit processes; and how these skills are evolving over time.

The added value of this project can be identified as:

  • The combination of theory and practice: Students will apply acquired knowledge to real cases, developing essential operational skills for the venture capital sector.
  • The interdisciplinary perspective: By integrating knowledge in finance, economics, and law, the program prepares participants to understand and address the complexities of the sector.
  • Access to industry experts: Direct interaction with professionals operating in the venture capital and risk capital markets, providing an up-to-date and informed perspective on market trends.
Who can participate

The course is open to 30 students enrolled in the EM60 Management and Sustainability; EM17 Innovation and Marketing; EM16 Global Accounting and Finance; EM18 International Management programs who have included the 3-credit microcredentials in their study plan.
Students enrolled in the above programs or EM4 Administration, Finance, and Control, and EM7 Marketing and Communication programs may also participate if spots are available, by adding these credits as extra.

Activities

The course consists of six modules, each lasting two hours (four in person and two online), and will be held during the 4th period of the academic year 2024/2025.

  1. Venture Capital in the Financial System (Duration: 2 hours)
    • Introduction to the role of venture capital in the economy.
    • Analysis of market trends in Europe and the United States.
  2. Risk Capital and Venture Capital Investment Models (Duration: 2 hours)
    • Private equity, venture capital, and private debt investments.
    • Angel investing, incubators and accelerators, closed-end funds, corporate venture capital, and venture debt.
  3. Regulatory and Legal Issues (Duration: 2 hours)
    • Regulation and supervision of venture capital investments.
    • Legal and tax aspects for investment schemes, term sheets, and binding legal documentation.
  4. Managing a Venture Capital Fund (Duration: 2 hours)
    • Introduction to investment categories: startups, innovative SMEs, scale-ups.
    • Deal flow and target company evaluation.
  5. Investment Management (Duration: 2 hours)
    • Deal-making, financing process, and portfolio management.
    • Exit strategies, valuation, and divestment.
  6. Practical Application Contest (Duration: 2 hours)
    • Presentation of a real challenge related to venture capital investments.
    • Students will evaluate real investment cases, develop a final investment decision, and present it to the class, integrating all the knowledge acquired during the course.

These activities provide students with a comprehensive overview of venture capital dynamics, preparing participants to face the challenges and seize the opportunities of this rapidly evolving sector.


Microcredentials by Ca’ Foscari University

The 3 ECTS Competency Labs activated by the Ca' Foscari Competency Center (CFCC) are recognized as microcredential activities.
Those who will participate in the Competency Labs must concurrently notify both the Lab's contact persons and the Teaching Secretariat of the Venice School of Management (didattica.management@unive.it), in order for the 3 ECTS to be correctly uploaded as microcredentials in their careers.
