Ca’ Foscari Short Film Festival

The programme of Wednesday, March 19th

Venice, March 18th, 2025. After the pre-opening, the programme of the Auditorium Santa Margherita, the main venue of the Ca’ Foscari Short Film Festival, will begin on Wednesday 19th March at 2 p.m. with the presentation of the  Venezia Comics and WeShort projects (with a preview-screening of 154 with Giovanni Storti) and of two new partner festivals: the U22 Youth Film Festival from Barcelona and the Colombian Smartfilms, with the screening of the respective winners of the last editions.

At 3 p.m. the festival's recurring programs will begin. The first one is Lo sguardo sospeso (curated by Elisabetta Di Sopra), which this year will exceptionally shift its focus from Italy to the UK to investigate the latest trends in British video-art.
This will be followed at 4 p.m. by The Birth of Italian Animation by Carlo Montanaro, focusing on the first animated experiments in Italian cinema. At 5 p.m., the official inauguration will take place, where, alongside institutional greetings, there will also be a screening of the short film Ginger ~ Fred, created for the Film&Parity Project with the involvement of the Short’s volunteers. At 5:30 p.m., there will be an unmissable appointment with the first international guest of this edition, Spanish director Pablo Berger, known for the multi-award-winning Blancanieves and My Robot Friend, who will lead a masterclass curated by John Bleasdale. The day will end at 8 p.m. with the first six short films of the International Competition, whose jury this year consists of Italian producer Alessandra Infascelli, British stop-motion designer and art director Barbara Biddulph, and French director Malou Lévêque. Additional screenings will take place at the festival's partner venues: the Casa del Cinema will host animated shorts from the Tokyo Student Film Festival at 3:30 p.m. and those from the Estonian Academy of Arts at 8:30 p.m.
