The project

Ca’ Foscari is the only Italian university to have joined EUTOPIA European University, an alliance of 10 European universities who share a vision and collaborate to build the universities of the future.

Following a three-year pilot phase, in 2022 the European Commission approved a new project,  EUTOPIA MORE (European Universities Transforming into an Open Inclusive Academy - Making Organisational and Real Evolution). EUTOPIA MORE will be awarded over 14 million euros over four years, to organise activities for students and initiatives to support PhD students and researchers.

The Rector of Ca’ Foscari University of Venice Tiziana Lippiello will be President of EUTOPIA for the next two years.

In 2019, EUTOPIA was one of the first European university alliances to obtain funding through the European Universities Initiative (Erasmus +, Key Action 2: Cooperation among organisations and institutions — Partnerships for Excellence). These transnational alliances have two main objectives: to increase the international competitiveness of European universities, and to contribute to the strengthening of the European identity.

The EUTOPIA alliance is daring, enthusiastic, and on a mission to develop innovative pedagogical models that extend beyond national borders. The universities in the alliance are student-centred and committed to reinforcing social cohesion by focussing on excellence and inclusion. EUTOPIA supports challenge-driven research and teaching; it promotes the awareness and empowerment of European graduates; it encourages the mobility of people and ideas, to stimulate debates and involvement. EUTOPIA’s partners share values such as integrity, academic freedom, sharing of knowledge, and openness to the international community.

"In this project of ours, the fundamental values of Europe can flourish: freedom, inclusion, openness, cooperation, and the awareness of the challenges we face together every single day — the environment, equality, digitalisation. These values and crucial issues of our time inspire EUTOPIA and our actions."
Tiziana Lippiello, Rector of Ca’ Foscari University of Venice and President of EUTOPIA

EUTOPIA Week: voices from our community

In order to better understand the impact that EUTOPIA can have on our community of students and researchers, we have interviewed the people who represented our university during some of the events that were organised during the EUTOPIA Week in Ljubljana.

EUTOPIA awarded 8 ERC Starting Grants

Prestigious ERC grants have been awarded to the University of Warwick (three grants), Ca’ Foscari University of Venice (two grants), and Vrije Universiteit Brussel, Babeș-Bolyai University and the University of Gothenburg (one grant each). This excellent result attests to the value of the alliance and of university policies.
