Entry requirements for applicants holding an international qualification
This page aims at guiding students holding an international qualification to apply to a bachelor’s or master’s degree programme at Ca’ Foscari University of Venice with the correct documentation.
Depending on the country where the qualification was obtained, there are mandatory documents and/or requirements that an applicant must have or meet, in order to enter the Italian education system and more in particular Ca’ Foscari University of Venice.
Applicants should keep in mind that the following tabs contain information that may vary in the future, depending on possible updates or reforms of education systems in the different listed countries.
All information reported below has been taken from the official website of the Italian ENIC-NARIC centre CIMEA (Information Centre on Academic Mobility and Equivalence), as well as from the official ENIC-NARIC websites of the listed countries.
With regards to admissions and enrolment procedures for international students, Ca’ Foscari University of Venice follows the directives of the University and Research Ministry (MUR) that are published every year on the official website for international students [ITA].
Possible exceptions are listed below.

General requirements
Applicants to bachelor’s degree programmes must have obtained a secondary school diploma after having completed at least 12 years of schooling. This diploma must be eligible to access further academic studies in the country where it has been obtained.
In addition, if an applicant’s chosen programme requires sitting an entry test, applicants must take the exam in order to be admitted. More information about specific admission tests can be found on the programme’s web page and will be given during the application procedure.
In compliance with the directives of the Italian Ministry of University and Research, applicants who completed 10-11 years of schooling should provide the university also with the relevant qualifications filling the 1-2 schooling years gap. Applicants to master’s degree programmes must have obtained a bachelor’s degree that is equivalent to an Italian bachelor's degree (at least 3 years, 180 ECTS or equivalent). This diploma must be eligible to access further academic studies in the country where it has been obtained and it must be issued by an accredited institution.
Depending on the programme of interest, applicants will need to demonstrate the possession of specific academic prerequisites in order to guarantee that they are adequately prepared to undertake their studies at master’s level.
In addition, if an applicant’s chosen programme requires sitting an entry test, applicants must take the exam in order to be admitted. More information about specific admission tests can be found on the programme’s web page and will be given during the application procedure.
Additional requirements for qualifications awarded after a period of schooling of less than 12 years
Applicants who wish to apply to a bachelor’s degree program and hold a qualification awarded after less than 12 years of schooling must fill the gap by providing us with one of the following documents:
- Academic transcripts of records certifying that all the exams foreseen for the first/second year of university studies have been passed.
- Certificates from an Italian university attesting the completion of a foundation course, which compensates for the missing years of schooling. Check this webpage for more information about Ca’ Foscari Foundation Year.
- A 1/2-years official Italian or foreign post-secondary study qualification obtained in a non-university higher education institution in a subject related to the chosen course.
The number of additional school years applicants may need to undertake depends on how many years the applicants studied in order to obtain their secondary education leaving qualification.
Required documents
Depending on the chosen programme, applicants may need to provide different documents. During the application process, students will be guided step by step on our online platform apply.unive.it.
The documents we ask for depend on the study level to which an applicant is applying for admission (bachelor’s or master’s level). Applicants will always be asked to provide documentation regarding the completion of the school/academic qualification that provides access to the desired level of study – for example, applicants requesting admission to a bachelor’s degree will need to provide us with qualifications relating to their high school study path, while applicants to a master’s degree will need to provide us with proof of their bachelor’s studies.
The relevant documentation must be uploaded on the applicant’s profile on apply.unive.it.
If a candidate is still studying or waiting for his/her final qualification, a provisional document can be added to the application (both original version and its official translation), but the final version must be uploaded before the end of the enrolment period.

- Valid passport
or ID card (for EU applicants only); - Valid Residency Permit (for non-EU applicants residing in Italy or in the Schengen Area).

Bachelor's degrees
- Final Secondary Education Leaving Qualification (or provisional Transcript of records and/or provisional certificate of graduation, if applicants are currently attending the last year of secondary school or if the final leaving qualification diploma is not ready yet);
- Mark Sheet or Transcript of records;
- English or Italian official translations of the documents listed in the previous 2 points, if necessary.
Optional for application procedures:
- Statement of comparability issued by CIMEA - Information Centre on Academic Mobility and Equivalence (i.e. Italian ENIC/NARIC centre)
or Declaration of Value (or Statement of Validity) issued by Italian Diplomatic or Consular representatives based in the country where your entry qualification was obtained.
Master's degrees
- A minimum 3-year-undergraduate/bachelor’s degree diploma (or provisional Transcript of records and/or provisional certificate of graduation, if applicants are currently attending the last year of their studies or if the final qualification diploma is not ready yet);
- Transcript of Records;
- English or Italian official translations of the documents listed on the first 2 points;
- Curriculum vitae in English language;
Optional for application procedures:
- Statement of comparability issued by CIMEA - Information Centre on Academic Mobility and Equivalence (i.e. Italian ENIC/NARIC centre)
or Declaration of Value (or Statement of Validity) issued by Italian Diplomatic or Consular representatives based in the country where your entry qualification was obtained
or Diploma Supplement based on the international model developed by the European Commission, the Council of Europe and UNESCO and awarded by institutions located in a country adhering to the European Higher Education Area (EHEA); Upon request of the Teaching Committee, additional documents relating to the previous academic path may be asked at a later stage (e.g. a detailed programme description/syllabus).
Translations of required documents
Applicants should keep in mind that for final/provisional diplomas and transcript of records, they must provide us with original documents and related professional translations into English or Italian language (if the original documents are not written in one of these two languages) before submitting the application.
Candidates can obtain professional translations either in their country or in Italy, and they can be issued by professional translators, a local court of law or court interpreters. The signature and the stamp of the sworn translator or the letterhead of the translation agency have to be displayed in the translation.
Statement of Comparability, Declaration of Value, Diploma Supplement
Even if not mandatory during the application phase, we highly recommend applicants to obtain their CIMEA Statement of Comparability OR Declaration of Value OR Diploma Supplement before submitting the application. In this way the evaluation of the Counseling and Welcome Unit will have an impartial evaluation to be taken into account. All the above-listed documents provide a detailed description of qualifications obtained outside of Italy in terms of nature, level, content and status and are issued by different authorities/institutions.
The CIMEA Statement of Comparability can be requested online through the CIMEA-Ca' Foscari DiploMe platform. Ca' Foscari has signed an agreement with CIMEA for our future students: this allows applicants to request the Statement of Comparability in 30 days only (instead of 60) at the same price of the standard procedure.

The Declaration of Value can be requested to the Italian representatives in the country where the studies have been conducted. Please contact directly the Embassy/Consulate for more information.
Diploma Supplements are accepted only if they are based on the international model developed by the European Commission, the Council of Europe and UNESCO and this should be stated inside the Diploma Supplement, usually in the preamble at the beginning. The awarding institution must be located in a country adhering to the European Higher Education Area (EHEA).
Please note: if more than one qualification has been evaluated for accessing the degree programme candidates applied to, they should provide either the Declaration of value or the Statement of Comprability relating to each evaluated qualification.
Examples:
- Secondary school leaving qualification (obtained after less than 12 years of schooling) + Foundation year diploma for access to Bachelor’s degree programmes;
- (Short) Bachelor’s degree diploma + Master’s degree diploma for access to Master’s degree programmes.
Language requirements
Depending on the chosen programme of study, applicants may be required to provide certification of their knowledge of one or more languages. Information about each programme’s language requirements can be found on the programme’s web page.
Candidates can apply to the programmes even if they have yet to obtain one of these certifications, but they must present it/them in order to complete the enrolment procedure later on.

Holders of refugee status or subsidiary protection status with an international qualification who are not able to produce a complete file should contact us at welcome@unive.it.
Ca’ Foscari will consider these cases on an individual basis.
