Enrolment for non European students who require a visa

Non European students with an international entrance qualification (e.g., a high school diploma or undergraduate degree completed outside of the Italian education system) are classified and enrolled at Ca’ Foscari as degree-seeking students. This page provides the information that degree-seeking students require regarding Ca’ Foscari’s enrolment procedures. They apply only to degree-seeking students who require a long-term study visa.

Citizens from European Union Member States, Norway, Iceland, Liechtenstein and the Swiss Confederation; from the Republic of San Marino and the Holy See; foreigners already officially residing in Italy (Art. 39, comma 5, of Legislative Decree 286 of 25 July, 1998), must follow procedures for Enrolment for EU students and equivalent.

The International Office’s Welcome Unit is in charge of enrolment procedures for degree-seeking students. Depending on whether a student is enrolling in a programme offered exclusively by Ca’ Foscari or a double/joint degree offered in collaboration with another university, the enrolment procedures differ.

  1. Complete an application for admission on Ca’ Foscari’s online application platform apply.unive.it;
  2. pass the pre-evaluation procedure in order to receive a letter of enrolment eligibility;
  3. with this letter, begin the so-called pre-enrolment and visa request procedure via the Ministry of Universities and Research portal Universitaly;
  4. with the visa approval, carry out the enrolment procedures described in greater detail below.

Double - Joint degree programme applicants should contact  jointdegree@unive.it for more information about enrolment procedures. More information on selection procedures can be found on the Double - Joint Degrees webpage.

Once the enrolment procedure has been completed, applicants officially become Ca' Foscari students and receive a matriculation, or student, number. A student can begin attending classes without being enrolled, but the student number is essential in order to be able to:

  • access university student services
  • fill out one’s study plan
  • register for and take exams

Enrolment procedures and deadlines

The information that follows regards non-European students requiring a visa wishing to enrol for the first time in bachelor’s or master’s degree programmes in the 2024/2025 academic year.

Enrolment procedures

Enrolment procedures generally begin in mid-July.

Future students must keep in mind that a visa for study purposes is mandatory for enrolment. They are warmly suggested to start their enrolment request by paying the first instalment of the due tuition fees only after having obtained their visa.

Under no circumstances can a student’s enrolment be finalized after the final deadline of 17 December 2024.

  1. Meet all the requirements by the relevant deadlines
    To complete enrollment, all the necessary documents (see the dedicated section below) must be uploaded in the “Task” section of one’s application on apply.unive.it.
    It is impossible to complete enrolment if one or more of these documents is not uploaded.
  2. Obtain a provisional Ca’ Foscari student account
    The personal information of future students who have been accepted or conditionally accepted via apply.unive.it is imported automatically into Ca’ Foscari’s student database, which is different from apply.unive.it portal.
    Instructions on how to obtain and activate a provisional student account are sent to applicants via email.
    The provisional account’s username and password can be used to access Ca’ Foscari’s digital learning tools and to apply for the Veneto Region’s need-based financial aid through the applicant’s Personal Area con www.unive.it.
    (Please note: Applicants who have already had a Ca’ Foscari student profile on www.unive.it in the past will be contacted with instructions about how to access their old account and will skip directly to step 3.)
  3. Communicate the programme in which enrolment should take place
    After obtaining a provisional student account, applicants must confirm the degree programme in which they wish to enrol via their application on apply.unive.it using the “Decision” function.
    This action must be completed by all applicants, even those who have included only one programme in their application.
    In order to do so, applicants must:
    - Access their online application on apply.unive.it;
    - Click on “Offers” on the menu on the left side of the landing page: they will be redirected to the section “Review your offers”;
    - Beside the name of the programmes for which they have been Accepted or Conditionally Accepted, they will find a drop-down menu to make the decision;
    - Click on “Make my final decision” to confirm the programme, so the system will automatically decline all other possible offers.
  4. Confirmation of the same programme on Universitaly
    Non-European candidates requiring a visa for enrolment must confirm the same choice they made in their pre-enrolment application on Universitaly portal.
  5. Check the enrolment request
    When the programme in which enrolment should take place has been communicated, an enrolment request for the chosen programme is generated automatically in our system.
    Within 2-3 days applicants receive an email confirming that the enrolment request has been successfully generated and providing instructions on how to carry out the payment of the first tuition fee instalment in order to confirm and submit the final enrolment request.
  6. Pay the first instalment
    In order to confirm and submit the enrolment request, future students must pay the first instalment of annual fees. Deadlines for payments are mentioned on the section "Deadlines" of this webpage.
    More information on how to pay is available here: How to pay.
    If applicants have already been granted a tuition fee waiver or have been recognized the status of refugees or hold a MAECI or CRUI scholarship, they should contact us at  welcome@unive.it before paying.
  7. Wait for your enrolment, or student, number
    The Welcome Unit will verify the enrolment application and will finalize the request as soon as possible, provided that the applicant meets all requirements and holds all mandatory documents.
    Applicants will then receive an email containing their matriculation number and password. These credentials will replace the provisional ones and grant access to the Personal Area and webmail @stud.unive.it.
    Remember that this email address @stud.unive.it will be used for all official communications: it must be checked regularly.

Enrolment deadlines

Final deadline to enrol in the 2024/2025 academic year: 17 December 2024.

PLEASE NOTE: Tuition payment deadlines can be different for those wishing to apply for the Veneto Region’s need-based financial aid.

More information will be made available by the Veneto Region around the end of July 2024.

Tuition fee payment deadlines

As mentioned above, a non-European student requiring a visa must pay the first tuition fee instalment by 17 December 2024 in order to complete the enrolment procedure on time, which is a later deadline than the one applied to others.

Despite this extension, the payment schedule of the second and third instalment tuition fees remain universal for all students:

  • Deadline for paying second tuition fee instalment without a penalty: 10 December 2024
    For students who pay the first instalment AFTER December 10, the deadline for the second instalment will be postponed to 23 December 2024.
  • Deadline for paying third tuition fee instalment without a penalty: 16 May 2025
    The amount of this last instalment is calculated based on a student’s status and on the total amount of tuition fees owed for the 2024/2025 academic year.

Credit recognition

You can enroll both in a bachelor’s or a master’s degree program asking for credit recognition of activities already carried out for:

  • another bachelor’s degree, master’s degree or professional master already obtained;
  • unfinished university career because of withdrawal or decay;
  • single courses (outside of a degree scheme);
  • stage/internship/work activity.

Enrolment with credit recognition is not allowed for students currently enrolled in another university programme for which suspension was requested.

Enrolment with credit recognitions is subject to the payment of a fee of €300,00: the invoice for the payment will be generated when enrolment is confirmed.

You don’t need to pay this fee if you request credit recognition for:
