Eligibility for English at level B2 Language requirements
In order to graduate, all the students enrolled in programmes taught in Italian are required to to meet the B2 English language proficiency requirement.
Preparing for your test
Online support courses are provided to support you in your preparation for the English test: access procedures, dates and further information can be found on the CLA website at the web page support courses.
Meeting your language requirements
You can fulfill the language requirements in the following ways:
B2 English language test issued by the University Language Centre (CLA B2)
You can take the CLA B2 eligibility in the available sessions in September, January and May/June.
In case you failed the test or you were absent to a test you booked, you can register for the CLA-B2 test only after obtaining the Open Badge "B2 English preparatory course".
In order to obtain the Open Badge "B2 English preparatory course" you'll have to take the dedicated online course.
CLA English language courses
You can fulfill the B2 language requirement by passing the final test of a B2 English language course at CLA.
You have access, within the limit of available places, to the 75-hrs course that you can attend paying a reduced price.
Recognised certifications
You can obtain an international recognised certification or a certificate from the Ca' Foscari CLA.
In order to obtain the recognition of your language certification attach the certification in your Personal area by selecting the menu Esse3 Career > Attachments.
Then send a request for assistance by choosing from the menu:
- Enrolment and registration/*choose your course* if you obtained the certification before enrolling and if you did not include it among the documentation you provided during the pre-enrolment phase;
- Student and graduate Careers/Exams if you obtained your certificate after enrolment.
If you obtain your certification at the University Language Centre (CLA), your records will automatically be updated.
Students enrolled in previous academic years
Students who enrolled in A.Y. 2017/2018 B2-TRI
In the 2017/2018 academic year, English proficiency at level B2 was required as an entry requirement for programmes taught entirely in English: the requirement could be attested even after enrolment but no later than December 31st, 2017. After that date, if knowledge is not attested, no further exams can be taken until the requirement is fulfilled.
Meeting your Language Requirements
Students can:
- take the appropriate test by contacting the University Language Centre (CLA);
- enrol in CLA courses;
- achieve a CLA certification;
- achieve an international recognised certifications.
Updating your Career
In order to obtain the recognition of your language certification attach the certification in your Personal area by selecting the menu Esse3 Career > Attachments.
Then send a request for assistance by choosing from the menu:
- Enrolment and registration/*choose your course* if you obtained the certification before enrolling and if you did not include it among the documentation you provided during the pre-enrolment phase;
- Student and graduate Careers/Exams if you obtained your certificate after enrolment.
If you obtain your certification at the University Language Centre (CLA), your records will automatically be updated.id.
CLA B2: Students who enrolled in a.y. 2013/2014 and 2014/2015
Students enrolled in a.y. 2013/2014 and 2014/2015, are exempted from taking the B2 English test provided that they have:
- passed either the English Language 1 or Anglo-American Language 1 exam (12 ECTS): in this case you will automatically be exempted from taking the test two weeks after the exam has been registered.
- a certification at Level B2 or above listed in the Recognised Certification section: in order to obtain the recognition of your language certification attach the certification in your Personal area by selecting the menu Esse3 Career > Attachments.
Then send a request for assistance by choosing from the menu:
- Enrolment and registration/*choose your course* if you obtained the certification before enrolling and if you did not include it among the documentation you provided during the pre-enrolment phase;
- Student and graduate Careers/Exams if you obtained your certificate after enrolment.
Students enrolled until a.y. 2012/2013
Students who enrolled prior to A.Y. 2013/2014 are not required to include the B2 English language requirements in their study plan and may choose:
- to maintain their current B1 language test (the test may be taken free of charge up to three times during their studies);
- to include the B2 English language test in their study plan as an alternative to the B1 English language test or as an elective test to obtain additional ECTS in view of their future enrolment on a master’s degree programme.
English as a vehicular language
Students who enrolled in a degree programme in the language area prior to AY 2013/2014 must include the Further Language Skills (Vehicular English) exam in their study plans. This exam may be taken by following the same procedures laid down for B2 English language test. The English as a vehicular language exam can be taken only after passing B1 eligibility..
The following students are exempted from taking the English as a vehicular language exam provided that they have:
- passed either the English Language 1 or Anglo-American Language 1 exam (12 ECTS): in this case you will automatically be exempted from taking the test two weeks after the exam has been recorded.
