Stefano Floris is an archaeologist specializing in Phoenician and Punic archaeology. Since 2021, he has co-directed the ‘Tophet of Bithia’ (Chia, Domus de Maria – South Sardinia) Archaeological Project, together with Alessandra Gilibert.

After a Research Fellowship at the Department of Humanities at Ca’ Foscari University of Venice, he has been an Alexander von Humboldt Postdoctoral Research Fellow at the Institute of Biblical Archaeology at the University of Tübingen and a Margo Tytus Visiting Scholar at the Department of Classics at the University of Cincinnati.

He obtained his degrees from the University of Bologna (B.A. in Classics, M.A. in Archaeology and Cultures of the Ancient World) and his Ph.D. in Ancient World Studies from Ca’ Foscari University of Venice. He holds the Italian National Academic Qualification as Associate Professor in Archaeology and in Ancient Near Eastern and African Cultures.

His research focuses on material religion, burial customs, cross-cultural interactions, identity, and ritual practices in the western Mediterranean, with a particular emphasis on Sardinia and tophet sanctuaries. He integrates archaeological fieldwork with the reassessment of legacy data, digital methodologies, and non-destructive scientific analyses. He has published several peer-reviewed articles on these topics (ORCiD; Academia.edu) and is the author of the book Il tofet di Tharros (CNR Edizioni, 2022).
