The double degree programme between Ca’ Foscari University of Venice and the College of Humanities, Seoul National University offers students the opportunity to attend part of their study path at the partner University and to achieve, upon successful completion of the programme, two academic qualifications:

  • Master’s degree in Language and Civilizations of Asia and Mediterranean Africa from Ca’ Foscari University of Venice;
  • Master of Arts in Korean Studies from Seoul National University.

Admission requirements

The programme is reserved for students regularly enrolled in the master’s degree in Language and Civilizations of Asia and Mediterranean Africa - Korea curriculum at Ca’ Foscari University of Venice.

To participate in the programme, students must apply during their 1st year of enrollment in the course.

Selected students will have to acquire, within the summer exam session prior to their departure, all the credits scheduled in the study plan for the 1st year, successfully passing all the relevant exams and completing the internship (54 ECTS credits).

These requirements do not need to be met at the time of application: the number of acquired credits will be verified at the end of the exam session.

Actual departure for the mobility will be subject to achievement of the required credits.

Students intending to participate in the programme must have an adequate language proficiency:

  • in Korean, which must be certified through a TOPIK certificate level 3 or higher;
  • in English (at least B2 level), though no official certification is required.

For further details regarding the programme's admission requirements, please refer to the dedicated datasheet in Annex A of the Call for applications.

Application and selection

Students can apply for the programme following the procedures and deadlines outlined in the Call for applications and its annexes, which are published annually.

The results of the selection process are published on this webpage, according to the timelines specified in Annex A of the Call.

Calls and forms

Programme and study plan

The programme envisages a mobility period at the partner University of one academic year, during the 2nd year of the master’s gegree.

The educational activities to be carried out at the Partner University must be agreed in advance with the academic coordinator of the agreement, Prof. Jong-Chol An, taking into account the course equivalence table provided below. Exams taken abroad will be recognized in the Ca’ Foscari study plan at the end of the mobility period.

Tuition fees and mobility grant

Selected students are required to pay tuition fees to Ca' Foscari for the entire duration of the programme and will benefit from total exemption from the payment of tuition fees at the partner University.

For the mobility period, students will benefit from a mobility grant with a variable amount, as defined annually in the Calls for Applications.

Mobility procedures

Before departing for the mobility, selected students will be required to:

  • complete the registration/application procedure at the receiving institution according to the methods and within the deadlines set by the Partner University;
  • sign the grant agreement that regulates the disbursement of the mobility grant;
  • fill out the Learning Agreement, listing all the educational activities to be carried out at the Partner University and identifying the equivalences with the courses included in the Ca' Foscari study plan, which must be approved by the academic coordinators of the programme at Ca' Foscari and at the Host University.

Further information will be provided by the Welcome Unit (International Office) upon completion of the selection process and after formal acceptance of the offer.

After reaching the destination, students will have to get the confirmation of arrival form signed by the Partner University, to certify the actual start date of the mobility period (orientation/welcome activities or educational activities).

If the students intend to make changes to the study plan agreed upon before departure, it is possible to complete a Learning Agreement variation form, which must be approved by the academic coordinators of the programme at Ca' Foscari and at the Host University.

Before returning from the mobility, students will have to get the confirmation of departure form signed by the Partner University, to certify the actual end date of the mobility period.

As soon as available, students must send to the Welcome Unit (International Office) the Transcript of records issued by the Host University, i.e. the certificate listing all the exams they passed during the mobility abroad.

The exams reported in the Transcript of records must correspond to those agreed upon in the Learning Agreement and any subsequent variation forms.

Graduation

Students will conclude their study path at the host University, following the procedures and deadlines indicated by the partner institution.

The thesis will be written under joint supervision of a Professor from SNU and a Professor from Ca’ Foscari.

The Graduation Committee will include a Professor from Ca’ Foscari who will submit a written report and suggest a grade and take part in the thesis defense either in person or online.

Once students have achieved their diploma at the partner University, they will have to inform the Welcome Unit sending the following:

  • Graduation certificate or certificate of completion;
  • Complete transcript of records

issued by the host University and contextually communicating:

  • exact date of graduation;
  • name of supervisor and possible co-supervisor.

After receiving the required documentation and information, the Welcome Unit will initiate the credit recognition process for the coursework completed abroad and for the final examination. Once the recognition is completed, the Ca' Foscari academic career will be closed by the back office, without the need to submit a formal graduation request.

A bonus point will be added to the final exam grade for students who participated in a double or joint degree programme. More information is available at the following webpage: Characteristics and assessment of final exam.
