Access to the programme

Open admission, subject to assessment of minimum requirements.

Quota reserved to non-EU students residing outside Italy: 20 seats, of which 1 is reserved for a Chinese student living in China, under the Marco Polo Project.

Admission requirements

To be admitted to this Master's Degree Programme students must possess a proper individual educational background and the minimum curricular requirements. A certified knowledge of English at minimum level B2 is also required.

Admission with international qualification

Applicants with international qualification must have obtained a bachelor’s degree that is the result of at least 3 years of study. The preliminary evaluation of the qualification is mandatory. Procedures and deadlines are available on the dedicated online platform.
International qualification will be evaluated by the designated teaching committee after the pre-evaluation procedure carried out on the online platform.


Course overview

This Master's degree programme provides advanced knowledge of the languages, literatures and cultures of European, American and postcolonial countries, promoting cross-cultural perspectives within a solid background in humanities.

Graduates will be able to continue their studies in the field of research, to fulfil roles of responsibility in the fields of national and international entrepreneurship and in public and private institutions; they will be able to access the programmes in order to teach in public or private primary and secondary school.

Double and Joint Degree

Ca' Foscari University of Venice offers international educational programmes designed in collaboration with one or more partner universities, entailing the attendance of part of the study path abroad. At the conclusion of these programmes, selected students obtain a Double Degree (a diploma from Ca' Foscari and one issued by the partner university) or a Joint Degree (single degree jointly awarded by the member universities of the consortium delivering the programme), depending on the provisions of the agreements with the partner universities and the different national regulations.

  • Double Degree in Iberian and Ibero-American Studies with Universidade Federal de Santa Catarina (Brazil): at the end of their study programme students can be awarded with a double degree a Master’s degree in European, American and Postcolonial Language and Literature of Ca’ Foscari University of Venice  and a Mestrado em Estudos da Tradução of Universidade Federal de Santa Catarina (Brazil);  Universidad de Sevilla (Spain): at the end of their study programme students can be awarded with a double degree a Master’s degree in European, American and Postcolonial Language and Literature of Ca’ Foscari University of Venice and a Máster en Estudios Hispánicos Superiores of Universidad de Sevilla (Spain).

    At the end of their study programme students can be awarded with a double degree:  a Master’s degree in European, American and Postcolonial Language and Literature of Ca’ Foscari University of Venice and a  Master européen en Études Françaises et Francophones of one of the partner universities.

    At the end of their studies and after the final examination students achieve both the academic qualifications: a Master’s degree in European, American and Postcolonial Language and Literature of Ca’ Foscari (Slavic and Balkan Studies pathway); Master in Philology in the Slavonic World and Italy from the Russian State University for the Humanities.

Examination assessment and graduation

Educational activities include classroom teaching, workshops and internships, in order to acquire wide-ranging skills that can be readily transferable into the world of work.
Knowledge gained by students will be assessed through written and oral exams during their entire university career.
The final exam consists in writing a thesis, which must possess the characters of originality, exhaustive documentation and scientific investigation and which will be discussed with a committee of university professors and experts.

Occupational profiles

Graduates will be able to find employment as organisers of cultural events in public and private, national and international companies and in the cultural industry sector; as an expert in intercultural education within a public or private institution in the fields of educational publishing, museum and library education services. He can work as an editor for publishing houses and publishing companies specialising in the literary and cultural sector; as a translator for private companies and public bodies publishing products. They can pursue an academic career after passing competitive examinations, or find employment with national and international research organisations. In order to become a teacher, graduates who have sufficient credits in appropriate groups of fields will be able, as provided for by current legislation, to take part in the admission tests for training courses for secondary teaching.
