Cultural heritage, sustainable tourism and business models of fortifications

The Summer School is organized within the research project Interreg Italy-Croatia, FORTIC - From Remains of the War to the Architecture of Peace in Cross-Border Area of Italy-Croatia, by the Juraj Dobrila University of Pula in collaboration with Ca’ Foscari University of Venice (Department of Economics).

The Summer School

The general objective of the Spring International School is to promote cross-border educational and training activities between Italy and Croatia. Specifically, the school aims to transfer knowledge and expertise to participants in the fields of cultural heritage enhancement, sustainable heritage management, and the development of tourism offers related to fortified sites.

Through the exchange of knowledge and the analysis of best practice models, special emphasis will be placed on the conservation and enhancement of landscapes and cultural heritage; sustainable tourism applied to historical sites and digitalization for the promotion and enjoyment of cultural heritage.

The Summer School represents an important opportunity to develop innovative models for the tourism use of historic fortresses, transforming them from places of conflict into spaces that promote a culture of peace and social inclusion.

The activity will involve Italian and Croatian students, fostering an international and interdisciplinary learning environment that will help strengthen cooperation between the two countries in protecting and enhancing their shared heritage.

Application

The Summer School is open to a maximum of 20 participants. Eligible applicants include master's students in Intercultural Development of Tourism Systems (SIST) and Economics and Management of Arts and Cultural Activities (EGArt).

Participants will be selected based on:

  • The number of academic credits earned and recorded by the application deadline.
  • Weighted GPA at the time of application closure.
  • Aptitudes and transversal skills documented in the curriculum vitae and motivation letter.

There are no registration fees; travel and accommodation expenses will be covered by the organizers (UNIPU and UNIVE).

Programme

All the activities will be held in English.
