Dario Miccoli is associate professor of Modern Hebrew Language and Literature (2024-). He graduated in Cultures, Institutions and Languages ​​of Eurasia and the Mediterranean (2007) at Ca' Foscari University and obtained a PhD in History and Civilisation (2012) at the European University Institute of Fiesole. He has been assistant professor in Modern Hebrew Language and Literature (2017-2024) and, before that, Rothschild Foundation Hanadiv Europe Fellow (2015-2017) at the Department of Asian and Mediterranean African Studies, Ca' Foscari University; FMSH Fernand Braudel fellow at the Institut de Recherches et d'Etudes sur le Monde Arabe et Musulman, Aix-Marseille Université, Aix-en-Provence (2014-2015); fellow of the Fondation Bettencourt-Schueller at the Centre de Recherche Français in Jerusalem (2014); research fellow in Modern Hebrew Language and Literature at the Department of Asian and Mediterranean African Studies, Ca' Foscari University (2012-2014). He carried out research periods at the Université Moulay Ismail, Meknès (2024) and, as Chercheur en résidence (2023), at the Ecole Française in Athens. He has been Vigevani Visiting Lecturer (2018) and Visiting Scholar (2017) at the Department of History of the Jewish People and Contemporary Jewry, Hebrew University of Jerusalem. For his research he received grants from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs; by the Rothschild Foundation, London; from the Memorial Foundation for Jewish Culture, New York and the European Association for Jewish Studies.

From 2021 to 2024 he acted as treasurer of the Italian Association for the Study of Judaism and member of the editorial board of the journal Quest-Issues in Contemporary Jewish History, CDEC Foundation - Contemporary Jewish Documentation Center, Milan. From 2017 to 2020 he was part of the Board of Directors of SeSaMO - Italian Society for Middle East Studies and, from 2019 to 2022, of the Coordination Committee of the CEM - Center for Middle East Studies, Ca' University Foscari.

He is the author of Histories of the Jews of Egypt: An Imagined Bourgeoisie, 1880s-1950s (2015), La letteratura israeliana mizrahi (2016), and A Sephardi Sea: Jewish Memories Across the Modern Mediterranean (2022). His publications focus on the history and memory of Jews in Arab and Eastern Mediterranean countries and on Sephardi and mizrahi culture and literature. He is currently working on a project on the history of the Jews of Rhodes and their migrations to Central Africa (Belgian Congo and Southern Rhodesia) between the 1920s and 1960s. In addition to this, he is interested in Israeli society and politics, migration literatures and cultures, heritage studies and collaborates as a reviewer of Israeli literature with L'indice dei libri del mese.
