Research Activity
Dr Tamburini is an Assistant (Tenure Track) Professor in Microbiology in the Department of Molecular Sciences and Nanosystems at Ca' Foscari University Venice. During her PhD Program at University of Trento and Postdoctoral training at Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai (New York, USA), she worked with aerobic and anaerobic bacterial strains in single cell and social behaviors (flocs and biofilm). She developed new viability quantification assays to study the physiology of bacterial community in food, wastewater treatment plant and human microbiome.  In the last seven years she focused her research on human microbiome studying:1. The viable gut microbiome during fecal microbial transplantation in Clostridium difficile patients. 2. The re-shaping of gut microbiome in infants delivered by C-section in order to prevent allergies 3. Gut microbiome in healthy aging and trying to understanding the role of gut microbiome in: modulating cancer risk, preventing cancer development and responding to cancer treatment especially for immunotherapy approaches. Currently, she is interested in studying the human microbiome, the structure of bacterial community and factors that shape the architecture of the community and her stability in health and diseases.
