Born in Moscow in 1979, Angelina Zhivova graduated with the highest grades in pianoforte and chamber music from the Gnesin Institute of Advanced Music Studies (Moscow). In 2014, she graduated in musicology from Ca' Foscari University in Venice, with a thesis entitled Animated Freedom. Music for Soviet animated films of 1965-1975. In March 2020, she obtained her PhD degree in "Historical-artistic and audiovisual studies" (XXXII cycle) at the University of Udine with a thesis on Music in Soviet animation films (supervisor: Prof. Roberto Calabretto).

Since 2017 she has been participating in the research project "Music criticism and film music" at the Fondazione Ugo e Olga Levi (Venice), which aims at a systematic analysis of reviews dedicated to film music, the creation of a digital archive and a reflection on the complex relationship between sound and moving images.

As a scholarship holder, she participated in the interdisciplinary seminar courses Levi Campus 2017 and Levi Campus 2020 organised by the Fondazione Levi. Since 2020 she has coordinated the LEVIcampus Alumni project together with Dr. Paola Cossu. Finally, also at the Fondazione Levi from 2021 she has a contract of continuous collaboration for the project of music collection acquisition, cataloguing and archival organisation.

Since the 2020-2021 academic year, she has been a lecturer under contract at the universities of Padua and Udine teaching the course 'Music in Audiovisuals'.

Her research activity covers various aspects: both the relationship between composers of absolute music and film production, as well as the musical and literary relationships between Italy and Russia, and, most of all, the relationship between music and Animation Cinema, an area of research that has resulted in the publication of the volume Music in Soviet Animation films (2023).
