Camilla Spaliviero is a Post-Doctoral Research Fellow at Ca’ Foscari University of Venice. She is also an adjunct professor in Teaching Italian as a L2 at the Alma Mater Studiorum-University of Bologna, the University of Ferrara, and the University of Turin.

Her research interests focus on second and foreign language acquisition and teaching through multilingual education, intercultural education, digital resources, and literary texts, with a particular emphasis on language learning strategies and language teacher education. 

In her current research, she explores the beliefs, teaching practices, and training needs of Italian FL teachers in Argentina on multilingual education, literary texts by women writers with migratory backgrounds, and digital storytelling.

Education

After a Bachelor’s Degree and a Master of Arts in Foreign Languages and Literatures, she completed a Master's program in Teaching Italian as a Foreign Language and Culture at Ca’ Foscari University of Venice. She also attended the postgraduate courses "Teaching languages to students with special needs" at Ca’ Foscari University of Venice, and "Reading and literary education in the 21st century" at the University of Valencia. She holds the certificates CEDILS (Teaching Italian as a Foreign Language) and COMLINT (Interlinguistic and Intercultural Communication and Mediation).

In 2020, she earned a PhD in Educational Linguistics, with the title of Doctor Europaeus, at Ca’ Foscari University of Venice. Her research project focused on using literary texts in the foreign language classroom at Italian upper secondary schools.

Research Activity

In her current research project, she investigates the teaching of Italian Language and Culture at the Dante Alighieri Society in Argentina. She explores the beliefs, teaching practices, and training needs of Italian FL on multilingual education, literary texts by women writers with migratory backgrounds, and digital resources.

Within the Itals Lab at Ca’ Foscari University of Venice, she is the scientific coordinator of the "Itals Letteratura" project, which focuses on research and teacher training related to using multimodality, digital resources, intercultural education, and multilingual education in connection with literary texts in the Italian L2/FL classroom.

She is a member of the Central Examination Committee (CEC) for the State Certificate of Foreign Language Proficiency (SCFLP) - Italian as a Foreign Language section - for the Greek Ministry of Education and Religious Affairs, Directorate of Examinations and Certifications.

She participates in the research projects "MULTIEDULIT: Reader education, literary, linguistic, and inclusion: An investigation through multimodal children's and youth literature around diversity and sustainability" (2023-2026), coordinated by Prof. Josep Ballester-Roca and Prof. Noelia Ibarra at the University of Valencia (Spain), and "AXIO-LOGOS: Language assessment through literary texts", coordinated by Prof. Antonio Venturis at Aristotle University of Thessaloniki (Greece).

She has conducted research experiences abroad. She was a Visiting Scholar at the Department of Language and Literature Teaching at the University of Valencia (Spain), and a Visiting Researcher at the Department of Foreign Languages at the University of Bergen (Norway).

She participates in national and international research groups. She is a member of the "Centre for Research in Educational Linguistics" (CRDL) at Ca' Foscari University of Venice, as well as the research groups "Multilingualism on My Mind" (MoMM) at the University of Bergen, "Reading Literacy, Literary and Linguistic Education, Culture and Society" (ELCiS) at the University of Valencia, and "Literature in Language Learning and Teaching Network" (LiLLT ReN) of the AILA Research Network. She is affiliated with the "Multilingualism Research Centre" (CMSL), and collaborates with the Archive of Migrant Writers (ASSM) at Ca' Foscari University of Venice.

Teaching Activity

Since the a.y. 2020/2021, she has been an adjunct professor at the Department of Education Studies at the Alma Mater Studiorum-University of Bologna. From the a.y. 2024/2025 she is also an adjunct professor at the Department of Humanities at the University of Ferrara and at the Department of Foreign Languages, Literatures and Modern Cultures at the University of Turin.

She has previously been an adjunct professor at the Department of Modern Languages, Literatures, and Cultures at the Alma Mater Studiorum-University of Bologna, the Department of Romance Studies at the Alpen-Adria University of Klagenfurt (Austria), and the Department of Languages and Literatures, Communication, Education and Society at the University of Udine. She convened courses on Teaching modern languages, Language learning strategies in Spanish and Italian LS through multilingual education, and Teaching Italian L2 through children's literature and digital resources. 

She has delivered seminars at foreign universities on multilingual teaching and intercultural education topics. She has been awarded Erasmus+/KAI 171 ICM and Erasmus+/KAI 1 STA projects, which she carried out at the Department of Philosophy and Letters at the University of Buenos Aires (Argentina), the Department of Italian Language and Literature at the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens (Greece), and the Department of Foreign Languages at the University of Bergen (Norway).

She has convened online modules within the Master in Inclusive and Accessible Language Education (MELIA) and the Postgraduate Course in Teaching Italian as a Foreign and a Second Language at Ca’ Foscari University of Venice. 

Membership of Editorial Committees  

She is a reviewer for the journals EL.LE. Educazione Linguistica, Language Education and SeLM-Scuola e Lingue Moderne.

She is a member of the editorial board of Rassegna Italiana di Linguistica Applicata-RILA.

Other Professional Experiences

She is a teacher of Italian L2/FL in different multilingual and multicultural teaching contexts, including primary and secondary schools, international university students, and adult learners. She is also a teacher of Spanish FL (secondary schools and adult learners) and English FL (adult learners).

She is a language teacher trainer, and an examiner for CEDILS certification.

She is the national delegate for the "Teaching Language through Literature" network within the Italian Association of Foreign Language Teachers (ANILS).
