The course, considered a core educational activity, aims to provide basic knowledge of Italian Renaissance Art History. It also seeks to equip students with methodological tools to analyze works of art. Major artworks will be described and discussed with an emphasis on historical periodization and geographical context. Major artists will receive specific attention.
- Knowledge and understanding: knowledge of the basic terminology of the subject; knowledge of the main artists, artworks, and artistic languages of the Renaissance.

- Ability to apply knowledge and understanding: ability to use the relevant terminology and to recognize the main artists and artworks studied, using the tools provided.

- Judgment skills:ability to analyze a work of art or the poetics of an artist or group/movement among those studied, placing them in the correct historical and cultural context; ability to respond to questions with appropriate language and formal analysis.

- Communication skills: ability to use appropriate and specific terminology, introduced and explained during lessons or in the reference texts; to apply correct Italian syntax and grammar; to interact respectfully and constructively with teachers and peers.

- Learning skills: ability to recognize the key figures of Renaissance art based on the reference study material; to place a work or artist within the appropriate movement/group and historical period, making brief comparisons between themes and poetics.
No prior requirements are necessary.
Through a selective examination of major works and the most significant artists, the course aims to address the fundamental themes of Italian Renaissance Art History and to provide tools for the recognition, periodization, and contextualization of artworks, along with basic information on iconography and iconology, as well as art historiography and criticism.
The bibliography will be provided on the course's Moodle page before the start of the course.
The written exam consists of five short comments of the artworks (20–25 lines each), aimed at assessing the ability to recognize and comment on the artworks analyzed, as well as verifying knowledge of the artists and themes covered during the course.

To pass the exam, a score of 18/30 or higher is required

Regarding the grading scale for the oral exam:

A. Scores in the range of 18-22 will be assigned for:

- Sufficient knowledge of the textbooks and related topics

- Limited ability to use data and form independent judgments

- Sufficient communication skills.

B. Scores in the range of 23-26 will be assigned for:

- Fair knowledge of the textbooks and related topics

- Fair ability to use data and form independent judgments

- Fair communication skills.

C. Scores in the range of 27-30 will be assigned for:

- Good or excellent knowledge of the textbooks and related topics

- Good or excellent ability to use data and form independent judgments

- Fully appropriate communication skills.

D. The “laude” will be awarded to students with excellent knowledge and comprehension of the textbooks and related topics.

The attendance of the course is strongly recommended.
