The course "Islamology" is part of the related and supplementary training activities of the Near and Middle East (VMO) (compulsory exam) and the Indian Subcontinent curricula (SCI) (optional exam) of the Degree Course in "Languages, Cultures and Societies of Asia" and of Mediterranean Africa" (LICSAAM).
The teaching contributes to the achievement of the educational objectives of the CdS in the area of cultural and humanistic skills.
The aim of the course is to give a general survey on the history of Islam and its political and religious currents and denominations for students interested in the languages spoken in North Africa and the Middle East (Arabic, Turkish, Persian, Hebrew) and in the knowledge of the complex political and religious dynamics of the area under study.
At the end of the course the students will be able to:
1) define the main facts which characterize the history of Islam;
2) possess a basic terminology related to the various political and religious denominations of Islamic history and its thought structures. This will enable students to be familiar with the main theoretical issues related to the world of Islam;
3) comprehend the main themes of Islamic religious and political history.

Islamic mysticism, origins and development.
Overwiew of Islamic theology (kalām).
Political issues of the 20th- 21st century, with special reference to Iran and the Gulf area and the Arabian Peninsula.
Study textbooks will be communicated at the beginning of the course.
The examination consists of an oral test comprising a number of questions on the topics covered during the course.
The exam aims to test the student's understanding of the fundamental themes of Islamic civilisation, and the main theological and politico-religious currents and institutions.

The exam will be held at the end of both teaching units.

Per quanto riguarda la gradazione del voto, si assegneranno i punteggi secondo il seguente schema:
A. punteggi nella fascia 18-22 verranno attribuiti in presenza di: sufficiente conoscenza e capacità di
comprensione applicata in riferimento al programma;
B. punteggi nella fascia 23-26 verranno attribuiti in presenza di: discreta conoscenza e capacità di
comprensione applicata in riferimento al programma;
C. punteggi nella fascia 27-30 verranno attribuiti in presenza di buona o ottima conoscenza e capacità
di comprensione applicata in riferimento al programma;
D. la lode verrà attribuita in presenza di conoscenza e capacità di comprensione applicata del
programma eccellenti.

Regarding the grading scale, scores will be assigned according to the following schema:
A. Scores in the 18-22 range will be awarded in the presence of: Sufficient knowledge and applied
comprehension of the program;
B. Scores in the 23-26 range will be awarded in the presence of: Fair knowledge and applied
comprehension of the program;
C. Scores in the 27-30 range will be awarded in the presence of: Good or excellent knowledge and
applied comprehension of the program;
D. Honors will be awarded in the presence of excellent knowledge and applied comprehension of
the program.
The course consists of fifteen lectures.

This subject deals with topics related to the macro-area "International cooperation" and contributes to the achievement of one or more goals of U. N. Agenda for Sustainable Development
