The course of Spanish Language 1 class 2 falls among the characterizing teachings of the common pathway of the Bachelor of Arts Languages, Civilizations and Language Sciences. The course consists of a semester module and annual language exercises. The general objective of the course is to develop basic metalinguistic competence in Spanish and Hispano-American language with special emphasis on lexical and semantic structures and to attain a language proficiency equal to a B1 level of the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR). Attainment of the expected learning outcomes is verified in a structured examination test.
Students in the Literary-Cultural and Linguistic-Philological-Linguistic curricula are required to take Class 1.
1. Knowledge and understanding
The lexical and semantic structures of the Spanish and Hispano-American language. Semantic competence, variation in vocabulary, figurative meaning, lexico-semantic relationships, and lexical innovation.
Linguistic knowledge of Spanish and Spanish-American language at B1 CEFR level.
2. Ability to apply knowledge and understanding.
Know how to recognize and describe the lexical units of the Spanish language; know how to distinguish types of meaning; know how to recognize, describe and handle lexico-semantic relations of the Spanish language (syntagmatic relations); know how to determine, define and analyze the meaning of lexical and phraseological units of Spanish; know how to find equivalent units between Spanish and Italian; interact vocabulary in communicative situations at B1 CEFR level; know how to understand and produce written and oral texts at B1 CEFR level.
3. Autonomy of judgment
Be able to make correction and grammaticality judgments based on linguistic reflections; be able to locate bibliographical sources suggested by the teacher; be able to make use at an initial level of electronic resources for the study of lexical and semantic structures (such as the Diccionario de la Real Academia Española or el Diccionario Panhispánico de Dudas www. rae.es, plataforma de consultas lingüísticas www.fundeu.es or el diccionario DiCE de colocaciones http://www.dicesp.com/paginas ); be able to implement communicative strategies at B1 level.
4. Communicative skills.
Be able to explain at an introductory level the contrastive differences in lexical and semantic structures between the Italian language and the Spanish and Spanish-American languages; be able to apply the terminology of linguistics to describe lexical and semantic phenomena in the Spanish and Spanish-American languages; be able to interact in Spanish and Spanish-American languages in communicative situations at CEFR level B1; be able to implement B1-level language skills to present the issues addressed in the module.
5. Learning skills.
Ability to self-assess at an initial level with respect to the acquisition of metalinguistic content as well as one's proficiency in Spanish and Spanish-American language; be able to apply acquired knowledge to undertake the study of the next teaching (Spanish Language 2).
Knowledge of terminology and the basics of linguistic theory, with particular regard to lexicology and semantics, and be able to make a linguistic analysis of the lexical and semantic levels of one's native language (knowledge acquired through the basic teachings in linguistics and glottodidactics of the CdS in Languages, Civilizations and Language Sciences).

Verification of learning is through a written test, with a total duration of 100 minutes, consisting of two parts, to be taken in the same exam session (same roll call):
(i) multiple-choice and gap-filling test, aimed at verifying the achievement of the required language proficiency (level B1) (relative weight: 40 percent of the final grade);
(ii) Test a composed of open-ended questions (to be chosen from 4) for a total of 30 points (10 points per question), designed to test knowledge and mastery of the theoretical linguistic concepts covered during the course (lexicology and semantics) and also discursive or textual competence in Spanish (relative weight: 60% of the final grade)
For overall passing of the test it is necessary to:
- obtain a score of 60% or higher in part (i)
- Obtain a score of 60% or higher in part (ii).
No partial grades will be kept. To take the examination test, students should keep in mind the provisions of Article 15 of the Student Career Regulations (https://www.unive.it/pag/8241 ).
A student in possession of a DELE certification of the required level or higher, obtained no more than two years prior to the date of the examination, shall only take test (ii), upon delivery of a copy (double-sided) of the certificate to the referring teacher on the same day as the written test. Other certifications are not considered valid. The grade obtained in the DELE certification (expressed in hundredths) will be automatically converted into thirtieths, regardless of the level of the certification.
