BIBLIOGRAPHIC CLASSIFICATIONS

The seminar, considered as a core educational activity, intends to approach bibliographical cataloguing through an historical outline and knowledge of principles, standards and rules of descriptive cataloguing.

At the end of the course students will have the theoretical basis to be inserted, through an internship under the guidance of professional librarians, in the cataloguing activities related to modern books in various kinds of libraries.

It is advisable that students have passed at least an examination of "information literacy" or "librarianship" during the previous degree of "laurea triennale" or during the "laurea magistrale" curriculum.

Unless compliance with the provisions for the prevention of Covid-19 contagion does not provide otherwise, the exam will be carried out as a written exam, with 2 open questions on the topics of the course, 4 multiple-choice questions and a practical cataloguing test on a text suggested by the teacher.

The examination will be evaluated according to the following parameters:
the student's ability to convey the knowledge acquired in a personal and critical manner, demonstrating the use of language appropriate to the subject matter and the mastery of the expressive medium will be evaluated with marks ranging from excellent to good (30L-27); a mnemonic knowledge of the subject matter, together with the ability to synthesise and analyse articulated in a correct but not always appropriate language, will lead to fair marks (26-24); formative gaps and/or inappropriate language - albeit in a context of minimal knowledge of the examination material - will lead to marks that do not exceed sufficiency (23-18); formative gaps, inappropriate language, lack of orientation within the bibliographical materials offered during the course will be assessed negatively.
