1. Knowledge and competence
- Skills in Turkish literary studies.
- Insight into the Turkish Intellectual history in the various periods, first of all in modernity.


2. Application of knowledge
- To be able to analyse literary texts
- To be capable to translate prose, poetry and critical texts
- To apply knowledge about the Turkish intellectual history through literary texts.
-To conduct an autonomous research.

Block I
- The literary and intellectual development in the Ottoman Empire during the nineteenth century
- The ideological changes in culture during the transition period towards the Turkish Republic

Block II
- Literatures of the minorities in Turkish
- Literary genres in the modern Turkish environment

The course will focus on topics of one of the two blocks according to the interest of the the course participants.

- Analysis and translation of literary texts from the periods treated in the course.

Academic paper (ca. 2500 words) on a literary aspect of the Turkish intellectual history form the nineteenth century until today. The paper must be presented and discussed with the instructor.

Independently from the attendance modality, evaluation is expressed by the following assessment scale:
18-22:
- sufficient knowledge and capacity to understand what has been requested according to the course program
- sufficient capacity of application of the acquired knowledge through autonomous text analysis
- sufficient capacity of data collecting and interpretation and of autonomous research

23-26:

The grade of excellence ("lode") is assigned in cases of excellent achievements according to the criteria listed above.
