Expected learning outcomes
Pragmatic competence, basic concepts of pragmatics, relationships between vocabulary, grammar and pragmatics in the Spanish language.
Linguistic knowledge of the Spanish language at B1+ CEFR level.
2. Ability to apply knowledge and understanding
To be able to identify and understand the main pragmatic phenomena (violation of a maxim, inference, etc.); to be able to analyse, from a pragmatic point of view, utterances and oral, written and audiovisual texts in Spanish, differentiating the meaning of the utterance from the speaker's meaning and identifying which communicative act is involved; to be able to identify any differences at a pragmatic level between utterances or communicative interactions in Italian and Spanish.
Being able to interact in communicative situations at B1+ CEFR level; being able to understand and produce written and oral texts at B1+ CEFR level.
3. Autonomy of judgement
To be able to make judgements on the use of pragmatic-communicative strategies and mechanisms in Spanish enunciations and texts based on linguistic reflections; to be able to deepen the study of pragmatics and the relationships between lexicon, grammar and pragmatics in Spanish from a Spanish-Italian translation and contrastive perspective; to be able to find bibliographical sources suggested by the teacher; to be able to implement communicative strategies at B1+ level.
4. Communicative skills
To be able to explain at an initial level contrastive differences in pragmatics between Italian and Spanish; to be able to apply the terminology of linguistics to describe pragmatic phenomena in Spanish; to be able to interact in Spanish in communicative situations at B1+ CEFR level; to be able to apply B1+ level language skills to present the issues addressed in the module.
5. Learning ability
Ability to self-evaluate at an initial level with respect to the acquisition of metalinguistic content; ability to apply the theoretical and methodological knowledge acquired to improve one's own production in the language, to plan the writing of the final thesis; to face research with more autonomy and to face textual production in the future in a professional context with more confidence and mastery; ability to carry out bibliographical research autonomously and with critical judgement; ability to approach study methodically in order to optimise results.

Assessment methods
1. a written test for Spanish Language and Translation 1, module 1 (45 minutes);
2. a written test for Spanish Language and Translation 1, module 2 (45 minutes);
3. an oral test (15 minutes).
The written tests are multiple choice as well as open questions and will be evaluated in 15 points each. The sum of the score in each test will give a final mark on a scale of 30. A minimum mark of 9/15 must be obtained in each of the two tests to qualify for the oral examination.
The oral test, which is to be considered a compulsory part of the exam, will test the communicative competence at B1+ level CEFR.The oral test consists in an interaction and presentation and will be expressed as pass/fail.
After a positive evaluation, the teacher in charge of the course will calculate the end-of-term average during the official exam sessions and register the overall mark of Spanish Language and Translation 1.The registration of the 12 CFU of the course will take place after the completion of the three tests. Since it is an annual course, passing one of the tests does not allow the student to obtain a partial registration of the mark (for example 6 CFU of module 1).
Students will have the chance to do the tests of module 1 and 2 both during the official exam sessions and at the end of each module (as ‘preappello’, an early and ad-hoc exam session or partial exam). The dates of each exam will be communicated by the teacher. Students willing to do the ‘preappello’ for module 1 will do so also for module 2. The marks obtained in the module tests (including the ‘preappelli’) will last for the entire academic year.

Grading scale
A. scores in the 18-22 range will be awarded in the presence of: sufficient linguistic competence in the Spanish language with respect to the level envisaged by the course; sufficient knowledge of the established program; sufficient ability to investigate linguistics through the theoretical notions and methodological tools presented in class;
B. scores in the 23-26 range will be awarded in the presence of: fair linguistic competence in Spanish compared to the level expected in the course; fair knowledge of the established syllabus; fair capacity for linguistic investigation through the theoretical notions and methodological tools presented in class;
C. scores in the 27-30 range will be awarded in the presence of: excellent linguistic competence in the Spanish language with respect to the level envisaged by the course; excellent knowledge of the established program; excellent capacity for linguistic investigation through the theoretical notions and methodological tools presented in class;
D. honors will be awarded in the presence of excellent language proficiency, as well as excellent knowledge of the established syllabus and excellent capacity for linguistic investigation through the theoretical notions and methodological tools presented in class.
