The course History of Russian language [LM6490] is addressed to MA students in European, American and Postcolonial Languages and Literatures. It is included in the Slavistic-Balkan curriculum. The course of Slavic Philology 2 Mod. 2 [LM0420-2] addressed to MA students in Language Sciences (included in Philological-Editorial curriculum as core educational activity) is borrowed from it.
Knowledge and comprehension:
In-depth knowledge of the historical phenomena wich concern the Russian language through the centuries up to the present day.

Knowledge and comprehension applied skills:
The application of the acquired notions for an in-depth study of the linguistic, historical and cultural dynamics underlying the use of the Russian language; the ability to orientate in the critical debates on the linguistic, historical and cultural topics in order to develop a personal research line, consulting linguistic corpora and proper bibliographic resources.

Autonomy of judgement:
The development of an autonomous expertise in the main linguistic characteristics of the selected texts in order to frame them in the East Slavic and Russian written tradition; the ability to find adequate and relevant bibliographic resources for an in-depth understanding of the issues in question.

Target communicative skills:
A general ability to present the acquired notions using relevant terminology, with particular reference to the historical and cultural framework of the phenomena and a linguistic text analysis.
Three-year study of the Russian language (required QCER level: B2).
The course program includes a short introduction to the main linguistic, historical and cultural aspects of the East Slavic world and some selected topics on the phonological, morphosyntactic and sociolinguistic characteristics of the Russian language from a diachronic perspective. Topics of the course: the Russian language grammar from a historical perspective; some paleographic aspects and the Russian Cyrillic reforms; the birch bark letters; the main characteristics of the "prikaznyj jazyk"; the theory of the three styles and the formation of the Russian literary language; the status of the Russian language in the Soviet Union and in the post-Soviet countries. Some selected passages from the East Slavic and Russian texts will be read and commented using the linguistical approach.

La verifica dei risultati di apprendimento attesi ha luogo mediante un colloquio di circa 30 minuti sui contenuti del corso.
A 30-minuted oral interview will be conducted on the contents of the course.

Oral exam. Discussion on a topic selected by the examiner (30%) and a topic selected by the student (30%) showing knowledge and understanding. Discussion of one of the papers among the suggested readings (40%) showing argumentative skills and autonomy of judgement.
Lectures and seminar activities on the Moodle platform.
Non-attending students will read an essay on the history of the Russian language. They will also delve into a particular theme through the reading of a bibliography agreed upon with the lecturer. The students in Language Sciences who study a Slavic language other than Russian can agree with the lecturer on a program for exam preparation.

This subject deals with topics related to the macro-area "Human capital, health, education" and contributes to the achievement of one or more goals of U. N. Agenda for Sustainable Development
