This course aims to provide students with a basic understanding of psychology. Beginning with an analysis of the historical context, various theories and methodologies of psychology will be presented. From Wundt and Freud to the most recent research in cognitive science and social psychology, fundamental theoretical concepts for understanding psychological and social dynamics will be introduced. The course has two main objectives:

1. Define and explain what psychology is, distinguishing between common sense psychology and psychology as a scientific discipline.
2. Explain what the cognitive processes of human beings are and how they function.
Knowledge and understanding: at the end of the course students will be able to define the science of psychology. They will know the main psychological theories and the functioning of the main cognitive processes. Students will also be able to use the terminology inherent in this discipline in an appropriate manner.

Application of knowledge: at the end of the course students will be able to use the acquired notions to understand and interpret social and relational phenomena. They will also learn to understand the point of view of others starting from the fundamental assumption that by knowing better the functioning of the human mind and cognitive processes we can make the most of it and understand how other people use it.

Communication: through laboratory activities, students will learn to put into practice the main communication techniques by developing marketing and communication campaigns.
