Traversing a selection of classical, modern and contemporary texts belonging to religious literature in Arabic, the main language of Islam, sapiential and exegetical, theological and legal texts, this course illustrates the ethical-moral element underlying the Islamic religion, investigating the values it conveys - in the past as well as today - which underlie social relations. The coursework is underpinned by lexicological investigation by also giving voice to Arabic-speaking authors of our time, whose linguistic medium almost always removes their works from wide circulation. With the use of sources diverse in discipline and chronology, although all belonging to the vast container of religious literature, an attempt is made to highlight the variety of positions expressed by the Islamic view.
