FUNDAMENTALS OF SOCIAL PSYCHOLOGY

The course aims to provide students with the basic theoretical and methodological knowledge of Psychology and, particularly, Social Psychology. It also equips them with tools for critical reading and analysis of the main psychological and psychosocial processes that govern the interaction between individuals and social contexts.

Specifically, the primary objectives are to enable students to:

1. Understand the phenomena underlying Social Psychology.
2. Outline classical and recent studies in Social Psychology and discuss their main theoretical concepts.
3. Acquire knowledge of the main findings from the most reputable research in Social Psychology.
4. Acquire knowledge of the most widely adopted research methodologies in Social Psychology.
5. Apply theories and methods to analyze concrete cases and intervene.

No prior knowledge is required.

The course aims to provide students with an overview of the main theories, concepts, and research methods in the field of Social Psychology.

The topics covered will be:

1. History, methods, and approaches of Social Psychology.
2. Perception of social reality: social cognition.
3. Explanation of social reality: attribution.
4. Evaluation of social reality: attitudes.

The course materials presented during lectures will be available on the course's Moodle page. Recommended readings may also be suggested during the lectures.

There are no distinctions between attending and non-attending students regarding the program to prepare for the exam.

The exam will be conducted in a written format and will consist of four open-ended questions to be answered succinctly within 40 minutes. No oral integration is planned.
The student's preparation will be assessed based on their mastery of the logic, concepts, methodologies, and technical language of Social Psychology, as well as their ability to apply them independently and consciously to concrete cases. The ability to report the required knowledge concisely and precisely will be valued.

Each question will be scored on a scale of 0 to 8, as specified below.
From 0 to 4.3 points will be assigned in the presence of:
- insufficient mastery of logic, concepts, methodologies, and technical languages;
- insufficient ability to apply them autonomously and consciously to concrete cases;
- insufficient ability to report the required knowledge concisely and precisely.
From 4.4 to 5.4 points will be assigned in the presence of:
- sufficient mastery of logic, concepts, methodologies, and technical languages;
- sufficient ability to apply them autonomously and consciously to concrete cases;
- sufficient ability to report the required knowledge concisely and precisely.
From 5.5 to 6.5 points will be assigned in the presence of:
- intermediate mastery of logic, concepts, methodologies, and technical languages;
- intermediate ability to apply them autonomously and consciously to concrete cases;
- intermediate ability to report the required knowledge concisely and precisely.
From 6.6 to 7.6 points will be assigned in the presence of:
- good mastery of logic, concepts, methodologies, and technical languages;
- good ability to apply them autonomously and consciously to concrete cases;
- good ability to report the required knowledge concisely and precisely.
From 7.7 to 8 points will be assigned in the presence of:
- excellent mastery of logic, concepts, methodologies, and technical languages;
- excellent ability to apply them autonomously and consciously to concrete cases;
- excellent ability to report the required knowledge concisely and precisely.

Group and/or individual work may be organized and evaluated during the course.

The course is structured with theoretical lectures and practical moments.
In theoretical lectures, topics will be discussed in their general aspects, and students will be required to delve deeper using textbooks and notes. Practical moments will be dedicated to the presentation and/or simulation of research examples and the in-depth exploration of specific themes or cases through the direct involvement of the students.

Active and critical participation in various educational proposals is encouraged for attending students.

Attendance is highly recommended.
