Contribution of the course to the overall degree programme goals
It constitutes the first 6 cfu module (FT0451-1) of the exam of Fundamentals of Conservation and Management of Cultural Heritage and is linked to the second 6 cfu module (FT0451-2) taught by Prof. Andrea Erri in the fourth period.
Expected learning outcomes
- ability to apply knowledge and understanding: ability to place the different phases of the history of museums and forms of exhibition design in the right context; ability to use the specific vocabulary of the discipline.
- judgement skills: ability to formulate a critical judgement both on the choices of organization and displaying of a museum and on the reasons behind an exhibition and the criteria adopted.
- Communication skills: knowing how to describe, through the use of appropriate vocabulary, museum realities; acquire the ability to express adequately the complexity of debates on the management of cultural heritage and exhibitions.
- learning ability: knowing how to recognise the fundamental characteristics of a museum and to understand the complex web of interests, not only scientific, that can lie behind the organisation of an exhibition.

Assessment methods
The score for each question ranges from 0 to 6.
To pass the exam, a mark of 18/30 or higher is required.
The final exam grade (12 cfu), recorded only after passing both modules, will be obtained from the average of the two partial marks.
Regarding the grading scale for the oral exam:
A. Scores in the range of 18-22 will be assigned for:
Sufficient knowledge of the textbooks and related topics
Limited ability to use data and form independent judgments
Sufficient communication skills.
B. Scores in the range of 23-26 will be assigned for:
Fair knowledge of the textbooks and related topics
Fair ability to use data and form independent judgments
Fair communication skills.
C. Scores in the range of 27-30 will be assigned for:
Good or excellent knowledge of the textbooks and related topics
Good or excellent ability to use data and form independent judgments
Fully appropriate communication skills.
D. The “laude” will be awarded to students with excellent knowledge and comprehension of the textbooks and related topics.
