The course, which is one of the characterising learning activities of the degree course in Conservation and Management of Cultural Assets and Activities, is intended for students (surnames A-L) of the curricula EGART - Economics and Management of Arts and Cultural Activities and TARS - Performing Arts Techniques.
It constitutes the first 6 cfu module (FT0451-1) of the exam of Fundamentals of Conservation and Management of Cultural Heritage and is linked to the second 6 cfu module (FT0451-2) taught by Prof. Andrea Erri in the fourth period.
- knowledge and understanding: to know the different phases of the history of museums and the basic vocabulary of the discipline; to acquire key concepts about museums and to understand their social function and organisation; to know the phenomenon of art exhibitions.

- ability to apply knowledge and understanding: ability to place the different phases of the history of museums and forms of exhibition design in the right context; ability to use the specific vocabulary of the discipline.

- judgement skills: ability to formulate a critical judgement both on the choices of organization and displaying of a museum and on the reasons behind an exhibition and the criteria adopted.

- Communication skills: knowing how to describe, through the use of appropriate vocabulary, museum realities; acquire the ability to express adequately the complexity of debates on the management of cultural heritage and exhibitions.

- learning ability: knowing how to recognise the fundamental characteristics of a museum and to understand the complex web of interests, not only scientific, that can lie behind the organisation of an exhibition.
No special prerequisites are required, beyond an interest in art history and museums.
Starting from the notion of cultural heritage, the course aims to provide an overview of the history and evolution of museums, as well as their past and current function and their organisation, without neglecting to address the issue of art exhibitions.
