The course is part of the teachings that characterise the Bachelor’s Degree Program in Conservation of Cultural Heritage and Performing Arts Management (curriculum Tars) ) and provides a basic knowledge of the history of modern and contemporary music with particular reference to the 19th and 20th centuries.
- Knowledge and awareness of the historical, social context and the main forms of music from the 18th to the 20th century.
- Ability to formulate a critical judgement in relation to essential theoretical and musical texts in the history of music of this era.
- Ability to analyse by listening to and reading musical documents.
No entry requirements are requested.
During the lectures, the fundamental topics of music theory and compositional techniques in modern and contemporary music culture will be treated critically. Through specific examples, the course will focus on the forms of instrumental music. The second part of the course will explore the Symphony with particular reference to its development in the second half of the 19th century.

Further critical bibliography will be given during the course.
The final grade comes from the sum of two components:
1. Active and regular participation in the classes
2. Oral presentation of a personal elaboration of the proposed contents.

Non-attending students are requested to contact the teacher in due advance.
Frontal lessons integrated with readings, musical examples and guided listening.
