In line with the general educational objectives of the Master's Degree Course in Biotechnologies for the environment and the susteinability, the course contributes to providing the knowledge to evaluate environmental resources and formulate hypotheses for management, spatial planning and environmental conservation, also integrating environmental issues. with regulatory systems and economic logic.
With reference to the specific educational objectives of the Master of Science in Environmental Sciences, the course contributes to:

1) provide advanced knowledge and skills related to the analysis of green and environmentally friendly industrial products and processes;

2) provide in-depth knowledge aimed at the application and development of methodologies for the assessment and management of environmental sustainability;

3) to train master's graduates capable of operating in specific professional fields also by virtue of the different scales of investigation and intervention for the resolution of environmental problems both locally and globally, developing the ability to evaluate and apply the best environmental solutions and / or tools applicable for businesses both with the aim of protecting the environment and as instruments of competitiveness for the market;

4) acquire the concepts and technical forms of environmental action of companies in accordance with obligations and opportunities.
At the end of the course, learners will acquire in-depth knowledge:

1) On the creation of green and environmentally friendly products, industrial processes and industrial services
2) on the environmental problems of companies.
3) on the main laws and their interpretation for the proper management of the environmental impact of public and private organizations.

Thanks to the concepts learned, students will be able to solve both theoretical and practical problems about the reduction (or possible zeroing) of polluting emissions, using analysis and business reporting tools.
No formal pre-requirements are necessary
The course aims to describe the business system, and its relations with the environmental sectors intended not as regulatory obligations, but as opportunities for growth, product and process innovation for entering new markets. In the context of corporate sustainability, students will learn how to use some tools for improving the environmental performance of companies, to make the most of the growth opportunities offered both by the "new" orientation of the choices of most consumers towards eco-compatible products and by the majority propensity of investors to finance the most “responsible” companies from an environmental point of view.

The typical activities of the graduate in environmental sciences at the service of companies will be highlighted, such as waste management, certifiable systems and environmental labeling, environmental management systems related to current regulations, implementation of the REACH regulation.

Finally, the topic of energy market pricing, integrated water service and waste will be afforted.

Written test
The written test consists of 15 multiple choice questions: 2 points are assigned to each correct answer. Missing answer equals wrong answer (0 points without any penalty)
Time available for the written test: 30 minutes

Work groups and student presentations on case studies and in-depth analysis of the topics covered in the course (up to 2 additional points on the exam grade. More details will be provided at the beginning of the course and in the slides).
