The course aims at:

1. Preparing students to make seminar-type presentations.
2. Supporting students in the process of translation.
3. Stimulating research into specialist texts from Japanese sources.
4. Furnishing the basis of the Japanese honorific language (Keigo)
At the end of the course the student will be able to:

1. Express thoughts and ideas in Japanese with technological support.
2. Hold a debate in Japanese.
3. Make correct use of the honorific language (Keigo).
Students must have at least a CEFR B1 level and sufficient oral ability.
Seminar lessons with active participation by students on economic and political topics relating to modern Japan and its role in a global context with questions and discussions in class. Students will be asked to complete assignments. The presentation of assignments will contribute to the final grade.
The use of the following Japanese dictionary (available on the students' electronic dictionaries and online) is recommended:

The final grade will be obtained by the evaluation of the presentation and the degree of participation in the debates.
Non-attending students will be requested to prepare 3 texts provided by the teacher, which will provide the basis for the oral exam.
The course is structured in oral presentations, class discussions (using Japanese), and teaching of the honorific language.
Students will be required to complete weekly tasks (individual or group work).
