This course deals with the role of research in accounting and finance; the method of scientific inquiry; experimentation, fact finding, design of data collection methods, and analysis of collected data and interpretation of results, and formulation of business related research projects by students.
By the end of this course students will be able to:
-Apply research methods in doing research in Accounting and Finance
-Have foundation knowledge for scientific reasoning and solutions for business problems
-Implement the research process in doing research
-Prepare research proposal for a project
-Explain the various tools and techniques of research
-Apply various methodologies of social research to solve Business problems
-Define the sources of data and data collection techniques
Knowledge of accounting and finance disciplines
The course covers the following topics:
Fundamentals of research: introduction and Meaning of Research, Objectives of Research, Features and Importance of Research in Accounting and Finance
The research process and design
Formulation of Research Problem: Meaning and Selection
Review of Literature: methods and tools
Research Methods in Accounting and Finance (qualitative, quantitative, mixed-methods)
Data Collection and Analysis
Interpretation and Report Writing

Study materials to be used in the course will be presented and explained at the beginning of the first lecture


The course grade will be based on a final written examination and the presentation of a research project. The final examination will consist of (max) 30 multiple choice questions that weight 50%of the final grade. The remaining 50% of the grade is based on the research project developed during the course and presented the last week of class.

The modality is the same for attending and non attending students.

The grading scale (how the grades will be assigned) is the same for attending or non-attending students:
A. scores in the 18-22 range will be awarded in the presence of:
- sufficient knowledge and ability to understand applied in relation to the programme;
- sufficient ability to apply knowledge and understanding and judgment;
- sufficient communication skills, especially in relation to the use of specific language relating to the subject;
B. scores in the 23-26 range will be awarded in the presence of:
- good knowledge and ability to understand applied in relation to the programme;
- good ability to apply knowledge and understanding and judgement;
- good communication skills, especially in relation to the use of specific language relating to the subject;
C. scores in the 27-30 range will be awarded in the presence of:
- excellent knowledge and ability to understand applied in relation to the programme;
- excellent ability to apply knowledge and understanding and judgment;
- excellent communication skills, especially in relation to the use of specific language relating to the subject.
Classes will comprise a mixture of theoretical and practical input and problem-based discussions. Classes will be interactive and students will be required to actively participate. The course is developed according to the blended modality. Thus, the students will have the opportunity to work on their project work from remote (if they wish) in the dates indicated by the professor.
Furthermore, to integrate the professor's lessons, it will intervene a visiting professor from US which will hold a Bloomberg lab.
