This course addresses issues, themes and forms of the current media landscape (ranging from mainstream media to artistic experimentation) through gender issues, which will be used to guide the analysis of texts and forms of representation, but also to understand the dynamics that influence their production and consumption, between hegemonic and normative forms and the possibilities of negotiation, resistance and feminist action that they offer or trigger. Gender issues will be approached and discussed from an intersectional, transfeminist and decolonial perspective, in the impossibility of disregarding the consideration of other differences, such as ethnicity, class, ability, age, which contribute to gender inequalities, beyond the simple male/female binary. The main objective is to learn to observe the media landscape in its complexity but also to develop complex and never simplistic tools for analysis.
- Being able to deal with different languages and media and artistic texts even beyond traditional contexts.
- Possess adequate knowledge of gender issues and related theories.
- Know and learn to apply different methodologies to feminist media studies for theoretical and field research.
- Recognise and define one's own positioning in research and adopt a situated and self-reflexive perspective.
- Articulate the complexity of positionings and forms of subjectification and identification.
