The course is a basic activity for the Bachelor’s Degree in Lettere and Storia. As such, it aims to offer a reference frame on some approaches and topics of human geography.
Teaching objectives: presenting themes and problems of contemporary geography and provide some tools to know and interpret the spatial dynamics at the various geographical scales.
The different development processes taking place in various regions of the world are approached by considering, in particular, the environmental dimensions.
1. Knowledge and understanding:
1.1 Acquiring the basic concepts of human geography
1.2 Knowledge of the classical schools of thought in human geography
1.3. Understand the importance of adaptive interactions between environment and society and among different human societies

2. Applying knowledge and analyzing:
2.1 Being able to use the above-mentioned concepts to interpret today’s world
2.1. Acquiring consciousness of one’s lived space and of the variety of landscapes and spaces of the world

3. Ability to judge:
3.1 Ability to judge the importance of variables involved in the geographical evolution of the earth's space
3.2 Let emerge historical and socio-cultural implications of spaces and places

4. Communication skills:
4.1 Writing in a logic, coherent and synthetic style, in order to expose the knowledge gained
4.2 Use of an appropriate semantic and linguistic register
General knowledge of the earth geography. Ability to read basic cartography (Atlas).
The course will provide some elements useful to narrow approaches and key concepts of human geography. Specific attention will be brought to the environment-society relationship, including in relation to resource use, and the processes of social and economic differentiation of human societies.
