The course aims to enable the student to acquire skills relating to the formation, management, conservation, use and exploitation of digital archives and digital descriptive resources.
At the end of the course, the student will acquire basic knowledge of theories, methods, legislation and tools concerning the following areas:

- training, management and conservation of document management systems;
- description of archives through the use of archival description software;
- digitization of archives;
- fruition and exploitation of archival descriptions and digitized archival resources.
Basic knowledge of archival elements, legislation and terminology.
The course will cover the following topics: digital document; electronic signatures; document management systems; conservation systems; archival description standards; software for archival description; digitization of archival heritage; fruition and exploitation of digitized archival resources; archival information systems and digital libraries.

The assessment of acquired skills will be carried out through an oral exam. A rating scale out of 30 will be used as follows:

A. Scores in the range of 18-22 will be set for:
- Sufficient understanding of the topics covered during the course;
- Limited ability to information processing;
- Sufficient communication skills, particularly in the use of specific language in the field of archival science.

B. Scores in the range of 23-27 will be set for:
- Fair understanding of the topics covered during the course;
- Fair ability to process information;
- Fair communication skills, particularly in the use of specific language in the field of archival science.

C. Scores in the range of 28-30 will be set for:
- Good to excellent understanding of the topics covered during the course;
- Good to excellent ability to process information;
- Good to excellent communication skills, particularly in the use of specific language in the field of archival science.

D. Honors will be awarded for excellent knowledge and applied understanding of the program, together with excellent analysis and communication skills.
The course includes lectures and practical applications.
