The course is a core activity of the Degree program in Economics and Finance and complements other courses in Finance in understanding the drivers and mechanisms that characterize financial markets. The course is targeted to learning about and developing competences to deal with the banking system and the capital markets. Students will learn about how corporate and investment banking work, which corporate needs can be addressed by them and how.
Upon completion of the course students will have

In terms of knowledge and understanding, the students will:
- understand which are the main elements that characterize corporate banking (in terms of information sources, services and instruments).

Regarding the application of knowledge and understanding, the students will:
- learn to evaluate and discuss the feasibility and appropriateness of the main corporate banking operations;
- understand how to structure and implement some of the main corporate banking operations.

In terms of judgment abilities, the students will:
- learn to present well-structured arguments to support the decision of whether or not to implement corporate banking operations.
Students are expected to have a basic knowledge of banking financing and corporate finance.

The textbook for this course is

The course features a written exam both 10 multiple-choice and open-ended questions to be completed in 45 minutes. All students should prepare for the exam by studying the textbook that covers all topis included in the exam. Question samples and further details will be provided during the course to familiarize students with the exam contents. Besides the written exam, some elective extra activities may be completed to supplement the final grade. These activities contribute to the final grade only when the grade in the written exam is equal to 18/30 or above.

Regarding the grading scale (the manner in which grades will be assigned), regardless of whether one is attending or not attending:

A. Scores in the range of 18-22 will be attributed in the presence of:

Sufficient knowledge and applied understanding in reference to the program;
Limited ability to collect and/or interpret data, formulating independent judgments;
Sufficient communication skills, especially in relation to the use of specific language pertaining to the economic functioning of public services;
B. Scores in the range of 23-26 will be attributed in the presence of:

Fair knowledge and applied understanding in reference to the program;
Fair ability to collect and/or interpret data, formulating independent judgments;
Fair communication skills, especially in relation to the use of specific language pertaining to the economic functioning of public services;
C. Scores in the range of 27-30 will be attributed in the presence of:

Good or excellent knowledge and applied understanding in reference to the program;
Good or excellent ability to collect and/or interpret data, formulating independent judgments;
Fully appropriate communication skills, especially in relation to the use of specific language pertaining to the economic functioning of public services;
D. Distinctions (lode) will be attributed in the presence of excellent knowledge and applied understanding in reference to the program, excellent judgment ability, and excellent communication skills.


The course will be characterized by frontal lectures by the instructor and guided class discussions. The course materials will be available through Moodle. It is possible that some professional guests will be invited to some lectures.
