The first teaching module aims to introduce and deepen the main concepts, models and tools for analysing long-run economic development, with a specific focus on the role of technological innovation and openness to international markets. The guiding theme is the centrality of productive knowledge in the processes of economic value creation.
1) Knowledge and understanding:
To know the main models of analysis of the economics of innovation and development.
Understand the role of technological change, human capital and institutional quality in long-run growth.
Become aware of the economic, social and territorial impacts of innovation.
Know and critically consider the main economic and industrial policies for growth and innovation.

2) Ability to apply knowledge and understanding:
Use the concepts learnt to interpret the evolution of economic systems, public policies, business strategies, market regulation in relation to the economics of innovation.
Know how to use the main data bases on economic development and innovation.

3) Judgement skills:
To be able to formulate and argue interpretative hypotheses on the development of technologies and their effects on economic agents and society.

4) Communication skills: The student must be able to present and discuss acquired knowledge in a coherent manner.
