Expected learning outcomes
In particular, the acquired competences will include:
1. Knowledge and understanding
• Know the key sentences necessary to interact in communication contexts that require knowledge of sectoral languages related to language, culture, literature.
• Have a solid knowledge of the advanced grammatical system of modern Korean.
• Having acquired an advanced lexical capability, including terms of the cultural, literary and linguistic fields of study.
2. Ability to apply knowledge and understanding
• Be able to correctly use the key sentences necessary to interact in communication contexts that require knowledge of sectoral languages related to cultural, literary and linguistic fields of study.
• Be able to understand written texts on culture, literature and language.
• Be able to use an advanced lexicon, including terms used in cultural, literary and linguistic studies.
• Be able to correctlyunderstand Korean sentences and texts including complex grammatical structures.
3. Judgement capacity
• Be able to assess the level of one’s language knowledge, skills and abilities.
4. Communication skills
• Be able to communicate the specificities of linguistic and textual analysis using appropriate terminology.
5. Learning skills
• Know how to relate the different contexts of study and apply your knowledge and skills for personal and professional growth.
Looking for a correspondence with Topik levels,at course start the new learners will have a starting level of 4+/5 grade, whereas at the end of the course learners will have acquired linguistic competencies up to a full 5th Grade, initial 6th Grade.
According to the Topik website:
"5th Grade High fluency in using the Korean language in professional research or work. Understanding and discussing less unfamiliar topics in politics, economics and other fields. Usage of appropriate expressions, distinguishing formal and informal, written and spoken, by context.
6th Grade Absolutely fluent in the Korean language for professional research or work, Capacity to understand and express oneself without problem, although without the full fluency of a native speaker."
Looking for the correspondence with the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR), learners of this course will be considered "PROFICIENT USERS" at Level C1 - low Level C2.
According to the CEFR Global Scale:
C1 Can understand a wide range of demanding, longer texts, and recognise implicit meaning. Can express him/herself fluently and spontaneously without much obvious searching for expressions. Can use language flexibly and effectively for social, academic and professional purposes. Can produce clear, well-structured, detailed text on complex subjects, showing controlled use of organisational patterns, connectors and cohesive devices.
C2 Can understand with ease virtually everything heard or read. Can summarise information from different spoken and written sources, reconstructing arguments and accounts in a coherent presentation. Can express him/herself spontaneously, very fluently and precisely, differentiating finer shades of meaning even in more complex situations.

At the end of this module Korean language learners will have reached an initial Topik 6 level, corresponding to an initial CEFR C2 level.
Referral texts
Additional materials will be regularly uploaded on the Moodle platform before class.
Assessment methods
- A written part includes grammar exercises, text production, comprehension of written texts, capability to produce original texts.
- An oral examination will be testing conversational skills, ability to comprehend a read text and reply to relevan questions, or summarizing the contents.
