In this advanced course, students progress from the intermediate level (B2) to the advanced level (C1) of the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR). The educational approach is designed to systematically develop and refine the four essential linguistic competencies: reading, writing, conversation, and listening. The course employs a methodology based on the critical analysis of authentic Korean materials, selected for their relevance to the students' academic specialization areas. This approach promotes the development of advanced analytical and interpretative skills, crucial for a deep and functional understanding of the language. Moreover, the exploration of various textual genres aims to strengthen communicative skills, essential in both academic and professional settings. The goal of the course is thus to equip students with advanced linguistic skills using a pedagogy that integrates linguistic theory, communicative practice, and critical analysis, effectively preparing them for professional and academic challenges in multilingual and multicultural contexts.
Students who successfully complete this course will develop advanced skills in reading, understanding, and critically analyzing authentic Korean materials. They will be capable of formulating well-grounded arguments on topics relevant to their academic specialization and effectively participating in discussions in formal and professional contexts. Additionally, they will develop the ability to express informed opinions and engage in debates on complex issues, demonstrating sophisticated communication skills appropriate for advanced academic and professional environments.
Participants in the course must possess an advanced intermediate proficiency in Korean. It is essential that they actively engage in preparing and reviewing the content presented during lectures. Furthermore, they must demonstrate considerable intellectual flexibility, crucial for adapting and applying linguistic knowledge to various academic and professional contexts. These skills are vital for interpreting and analyzing complex materials and for effectively participating in advanced discussions and debates.

The course "Korean Language 1.1" is structured over a semester and culminates with a final evaluation consisting of two distinct components:

1. Multi-phase written test: The written test is divided into two main sections: grammar and conversation. Each section is scored out of a maximum of 30 points. The average of the scores from these two sections constitutes the final score of the written test. A score below 18 in any one of the sections results in a failing evaluation and disqualification from passing the test.
2. Oral examination: Access to the oral exam is contingent upon passing the written test. The oral exam involves a conversation assessed according to the CEL criteria.

The final grade for the course is determined by the weighted average of the scores obtained in the oral and written tests. Passing "Korean Language 1.1" is an essential prerequisite for access to and subsequent passing of "Korean Language 1.2". The 12 university credit units (CFUs) associated with the course are awarded only after passing the final examination. This assessment structure aims to rigorously consolidate and verify the linguistic competencies acquired during the semester.
The course will be conducted through face-to-face lectures by the professor, accompanied by reading and tutoring sessions. These sessions are designed to foster intense interaction among participants, who are actively involved in the learning process. Active participation in these meetings is required so that participants can develop an independent linguistic understanding using the exercises methodically presented in class by the professor. Additionally, online exercises will be available using specially prepared study materials uploaded to the MOODLE page for each CEL. These materials are intended to supplement and enhance the understanding and practice of linguistic skills acquired during the face-to-face lectures, thus promoting a holistic and coherent educational approach.

This course demands significant effort and strong motivation to navigate the challenging transition from an intermediate to an advanced level of proficiency in the Korean language. At this stage of learning, students are expected to deepen their linguistic skills, acquire more sophisticated syntactic structures, and handle more complex language content, all of which are essential for advanced and critical use of the language.
