The Elementary level Italian language course includes the teaching of the four basic skills (listening, reading, speaking and writing), integrated skills (speaking), grammar and vocabulary appropriate to the level, and also historical, geographical and cultural aspects of the Italian language to enable students to have a comprehensive knowledge of the language and effective communication.
At the end of the course, students should know how to introduce themselves and interact with natives speakers in a simple manner, understand easy oral and written messages in Italian, be able to tell in oral and written form some facts of the present or recent past with appropriate fluency and lexical breadth and with use of idiomatic forms of speech.
No prerequisites are required.
Be able to greet and introduce oneself, say and ask what a person's job is, talk about food and cooking, can describe their home, give and ask for directions, express their preferences, describe the weather, a trip in the recent past, ask and tell the hour, write and say a date in Italian style, write a postcard or a short e-mail in Italian style and language, talk about their family, can interact and buy in a store or supermarket, describe minor health complaints and ask for advice. To know the Italian cultural pattern with respect to each topic, idioms and cultural expressions, to know colloquial expressions and youth language.
