INTRODUCTION TO DIGITAL HUMANITIES

The course aims at introducing the characteristics, content and purpose of the digital humanities and the methods and tools available to scholars in the humanities today. The course, considered as an interdisciplinary activity in the BA program in History, curriculum From European Hegemony to Globalization, offers knowledge of the new approaches and methodologies that characterize the Digital Humanities and illustrates the potentiality of the new technologies applied to the study of the humanitiea and of the historical data.

Through the critical acquisition of the contents offered by the course, the student should have achieved at the end of the module the necessary skills to orientate himself in the complexed articulation of Digital Humanities and understand the general lines of the methods and analysis of historical data.

No particular prerequisites are required.

The course will provide an overview of key aspects of the digital transformation of scholarly methods and practices in the humanities. Students will acquire a basic knowledge of the history of Digital Humanities as a discipline. Referring to a wide range of digital projects and scholarly resources participants will be introduced to past and current debates on theoretical issues and implications of applying digital tools and methodologies in literary, historic, artistic and cultural heritage research.

The exam is oral and in presence. Students have to answer the questions in such a way as to demonstrate sufficient knowledge of the subject to pass the exam.

Lessons will be carried out in a conventional manner.
