ITALIAN LITERATURE 1 MOD. I

This class, among the "field modules" in the bachelor’s degree in Humanities, curriculum in Science of the Literary Text and Communication, is meant to furnish students not only with basic knowledge of the main trends of Italian literature, but moreover with the theoretical and methodological tools to face the specific problematics of the discipline. The class thus has three main objectives: to trace the development of Italian literature, by way of specific examples; to foster the capacity of autonomous reflection on a literary text; to furnish the basic methodological tools of textual analysis. Particular attention is devoted to the centrality of the text, be it poetic or prose, as an indispensable starting point in any theoretical or critical discourse.

At the end of the course, the student will learn about the historical and cultural context of the Italian liter-ary civilization of the modern age and will be able to use terminology adapted to the specificity of the discipline. Will be able to understand, analyze and interpret the literary texts subject of the course with the appropriate tools and tools, to identify and examine themes, topics and ideas developed by the authors treated, to organize the contents in appropriate summaries by making comparisons between texts, to for-mulate a reasoned judgment of value, to critically consult the reference texts and the bibliography contained therein.

To properly follow the lessons the student must have a good knowledge of the Italian language, re-knowing the formal and linguistic aspects of a literary text.

The course combines a theoretical and textual approach (focusing on a specific and complex literary form) with a historical one, proceeding according to chronological coordinates, in order to provide students with the widest possible vision of Italian literary development and the related issues and issues. The module aims to identify the cultural and cultural lines of the various eras (Middle Ages, Humanism, Renaissance) through a kind of great fortune in our literary tradition, the epic-chivalric poem, analyzed in his route from the "Chanson de Roland" to Luigi Pulci, Matteo Maria Boiardo, Ludovico Ariosto and Torquato Tasso.

The teaching materials commented during the lessons will be uploaded to the University’s “Moodle” e-learning platform.

The final test consists of an oral interview on the topics covered and in-depth on the texts. The student must demonstrate to know the historical and cultural context of the course, to know how to frame, analyze and comment in an appropriate way the texts and to know how to expose the contents correctly and clearly.
The evaluation criteria respond to different levels of ability: from the minimum level of correct understanding of the meanings and elements of historical-cultural contextualization of literary texts to the highest level of in-depth knowledge of the contents, capacity of critical reorganization of the same and excellent exhibition competence.
The 12 cfu will be recorded after passing the first and second modules.

Lessons combine lectures with active student participatin and with multimedia support (Word and Power Point with the video projector).
The didactic materials used to lesson will be available on the e-learning platform "Moodle" of University, where self-assessment tests will be inserted.
