Contribution of the course to the overall degree programme goals
Teaching objectives: presenting themes and problems of contemporary geography and provide some tools to know the spatial dynamics at the various geographical scales.
Expected learning outcomes
Familiarization with cartography will be required, essential tool for interpreting, reading and representing the territory.

a) Basic conceptual elements of geography.
b) Cartographic reading exercises (materials provided by the teacher), carried out in the classroom, with the teacher's guidance and then evaluated, scheduled for the 20th September 2023 class.
c) Greater emphasis will be given to the geopolitics of maritime transport and world trade, considered a particularly attractive topic for the degree courses to which teaching is directed, with a special focus on the South East Asia, also in a historical key, starting from the colonial era. This sector of the course will be carried out using materials provided by the teacher, representing the monographic part of in-depth study and application of general theoretical concepts.
Non-attending students will have a bibliography.

For those interested in the geopolitics of the Far East area, with a historical/diplomatic trait, to understand the beginning of US domination in the Pacific, after the Spanish empire disappearance in Asia:

3) Cartographic reading exercise: by participating only at the class on 20th September, open to non-attending students, you will pass the test. Non- attending students will notify the teacher via e-mail of their presence on the 20th, before the scheduled date. If it is not even possible to come to the single lesson on 20th September, please write to the teacher by e-mail well before registering for the chosen exam session. In any case, cartography to be practiced and instructions are published on Moodle platform.
This program is also suitable for those who belong to protected categories. The reproductions of the lessons on Panopto will be available (reserved for these categories) but you are encoraged to choose the program for non-attending students. The lessons have an interactive nature with the classroom, therefore the user of the recordings will obviously not be able to do so. Nonetheless, the reproductions are certainly useful as a guide. The teacher will always be available for dedicated tutorials. Do not hesitate to write to the teacher.
Assessment methods
Non-attending students: written test with a maximum of six open questions (3 hours), on the texts indicated, redacted in an appropriate academic language. Cartographic reading must have already been completed in the classroom on 20th of September or at another time previously agreed with the teacher.
Attending students are considered anyone who has attended at least 24 hours of lessons out of 30. Attendance at the cartography exercises, the part concerning the landscape and the final one on the geopolitics of South East Asia is in any case considered compulsory. During the first lesson, the will or not to attend will be declared. Those who suffer unforeseen events during the course that prevent the attendance, please contact the teacher, always available to agree on a solution.
