This course introduces students to psychological science. Based on the analysis of the historical context, theories and methodology of psychological science will be presented. From Wundt and Freud to the most recent research in the field of cognitive science and sociology psychology, the fundamental theoretical concepts for the understanding of psychic and social dinamics will be presented.The course has two main objectives.
1. Define and explain what psychology is by distinguishing between what is the psychology of common sense and what is psychology as a scientific discipline.
2. Explain what the cognitive processes of the human being are, and how they work.
Knowledge and understanding: at the end of the course students will be able to define the science of psychology. They will know the main psychological theories and the functioning of the main cognitive processes. Students will also be able to use the terminology inherent in this discipline in an appropriate manner.

Application of knowledge: at the end of the course students will be able to use the acquired notions to understand and interpret social and relational phenomena. They will also learn to understand the point of view of others starting from the fundamental assumption that by knowing better the functioning of the human mind and cognitive processes we can make the most of it and understand how other people use it.

Communication: through laboratory activities, students will learn to put into practice the main communication techniques by developing marketing and communication campaigns.
The course does not provide any prerequisite only a curiosity for the functioning of the human mind.

Written exam with multiple choice questions. For each wrong question 0.25 points will be deducted. The exam will NOT be open book.
The course provides online lessons and interactive lessons in which the teacher's explanation involves discussions and working groups on particular themes.
The course provides a laboratory activity in which students will develop a marketing and communication campaign, working in a group.
