Didattica dell'italiano is especially designed for the students wishing to pursue a teaching career. The aim of the course is to provide students with the methodological tools for teaching Italian in middle and high schools. In addition to the basic topics (normative sources for the teaching of Italian language; nature of grammar; teaching of writing), this year's focus will be on didactics of the spoken language.
At the end of the course, students will be able to identify and select teaching methods, techniques and materials suitable for achieving the learning outcomes envisaged by the regulations in the various school orders and grades for the teaching of Italian. They will know how to orientate themselves in relation to the main linguistic tasks required of Italian teachers: teaching grammar; guiding students in understanding and analysing texts; stimulating the development of writing skills.
Knowledge of Italian language and Italian grammar is required, which will be ani any case tested through the volume of M. Prandi/C. De Santis, Grammatica italiana essenziale e ragionata, Turin, Utet, 2020 (see better below).
The contents of the course cover the following topics: the school legislation, the language education, the reflection on the notions of grammar and error, the teaching of the written text, the promotion of inclusive didactics attentive to gender inequality, learning disorders, plurilingualism and pluriculturalism. In addition, part of the course will be devoted to the teaching of the spoken language, which is an important learning objective but is still little practiced in the classroom today.
The reference texts to be studied by every attending of non-attending students are the following ones:
- Cignetti / Demartini / Fornara / Viale, Didattica dell'italiano come lingua prima, Bologna, il Mulino, 2022;
- Prandi / De Santis, Grammatica italiana essenziale e ragionata, Torino, Utes, 2020;
- Sammarco / Voghera, Ascoltare e parlare. Idee per la didattica, Firenze, Cesati, 2021.
The final learning assessment consists of an oral interview on the topics covered in the course and on the reference texts, during which the following items will be tested:
- the mastery of the basic contents;
- the ability to make connections beyond the order in which information is given or contained in the texts;
- accuracy and precision in exposition.
Any presentations given or term papers written during the course will contribute to the overall assessment.
The course includes lectures with the support of multimedia tools (Word, Power Point, etc.), during which the active participation of students will be stimulated. Part of the course may be set in seminar mode, with students presenting in-depth studies on topics agreed upon with the lecturer.
