Contribution of the course to the overall degree programme goals
The course is divided into three parts.
Part One: Introduction to Research with Children. This initial phase is devoted to the definition of participatory research with children in relation to the development of children's and adolescents' cognitive, social and participation skills. The organising principles of child/adolescent participation will be explored through a series of examples of participatory research projects with children.
Part Two: Designing Educational Research. The second part focuses on developing the course students' skills needed to design research in the field of education. Types of research will be explored, how to formulate research questions, consult research literature, formulate research hypotheses, and identify populations and samples. Special attention will be paid to research methods/tools specifically adapted to engage children according to age.
Part Three: Practical Application. In the final phase of the course, students attending will have the opportunity to put what they have learnt into practice. They work in groups to develop participatory research proposals with children, applying the knowledge acquired in the first two parts. These projects are presented in the classroom.
Expected learning outcomes
APPLIED KNOWLEDGE AND UNDERSTANDING. Expected Result: Students will be able to apply the knowledge acquired during the course to the design of educational research. They will be able to identify different types of research, formulate relevant research questions, consult relevant scientific literature, develop research hypotheses and identify representative samples. In addition, they will be able to use research methods and instruments specifically designed to engage children and adolescents.
AUTONOMY OF JUDGEMENT. Expected Result: Students will acquire autonomy of judgement in the design and analysis of educational research. They will be able to critically evaluate different research methodologies and make informed decisions on the choice of the most appropriate methods for involving children in research processes. They will be able to make clear and well-founded judgements based on evidence and knowledge.
COMMUNICATION SKILLS. Expected Result: Students will develop advanced communication skills, able to clearly present participatory research proposals with children in both written and oral form. They will be able to communicate effectively with their colleagues and the public, explaining their ideas and research methodologies in an understandable way. This communication skill will be essential to engage others in research and to present findings in a convincing manner.
LEARNING SKILLS. EXPECTED OUTCOME: Students will acquire the ability to learn continuously in the field of educational research, particularly in participatory research with children. They will be able to adapt to new research contexts and apply their skills flexibly. In addition, they will be able to stay abreast of new trends and best practices in research with children, demonstrating an ongoing commitment to lifelong learning.

Assessment methods
- Notify the professor (banzato@unive.it) to take the exam as a non-attendee students AT LEAST ONE MONTH BEFORE THE APPOINTMENT.
- Contact the professor (banzato@unive.it) to request the Moodle access key, writing in the subject line: ACCESS CODE.
- "Do not make your own examination programme". If these conditions are met (no notice and no agreement with the lecturer one month before the exam), please note that the syllabus remains that of the institutional syllabus published here.
______________________________________________
The assessment of learning will take the form of a written examination consisting of 22 multiple-choice questions (worth 1 mark) and 3 short open-ended questions (worth 3 marks each). Time: 40 minutes.
These questions cover both the theoretical knowledge learnt during the course and the skills of reasoning and application on case studies.
The assessment criteria for the short-answer questions on theoretical knowledge and reasoning skills are:
(a) the accuracy of the information reported in relation to the theoretical knowledge learnt
(b) the appropriate use of language appropriate to the discipline
(c) the validity of the argumentation
(d) the effectiveness of communication and presentation
