The course initiates the basic study of Modern Greek by ensuring the indispensable knowledge of Modern Greek. Students should get a solid written and oral acquisition of the language and make adequate use of grammar (articles, nouns, adjectives and adverbs, pronouns, verbs). In addition, students should be able to ask and answer questions and construct dialogues on the topics covered in the course.
The expected outcome is that students will be able to make use of all four language skills (listening, speaking, reading and writing) and develop their skills in each of these areas.
There are no prerequisites, although students from Classical High School have prior knowledge that enables them to reach B1 level from the first year.
During the course,students will be able to practice language through texts associated with everyday life and will be able to use topical expressions and exchange information on various topics (personal details, family, habits, sports, study, work, leisure, cinema, theater, etc.). In addition,they will be able to write a letter/email.

Classes will be face-to-face. Progressive observation of work done in the classroom and oral and written comprehension and production skills is planned. An attempt will be made to use the four language skills with guided exercises and communicative activities. The specific elements of the course will be determined primarily by students' needs and goals.
“Cooperative Learning” is used to engage students to participate in class with group work and share their knowledge.

The exam includes a written test consisting of translation of a short text, grammar exercises and production of a paper (of about 50 words). An oral test is also planned. The ability to properly pronounce and correctly translate vocabulary in Modern Greek will be constituted as an element of evaluation.
